Too many 70`s wannabe rock-band . . .

First there was The Strokes . . . And then some band from down under named The Vines . . . I still can find them interesting. And then you add The White Stripes, Jet, and even Phantom Planet or some British band who looks and sings like the late 60`s Rolling Stones ( forgot the name . . . ) and suddenly . . . I FEEL BORED WITH IT !!!!! I mean, what the f**k is happening to musical creativity ??? They all sounds the same. It`s like the days some years ago when nu-metal, hip-hop metal or whatever they may call it flourished and bands like Limp Bizkit, Korn, LP made the same, simillar music over and over again. Now all bands sounds ****in` simillar and that`s just crap . . . Not to mention Idols champion. I hate pop music and now rock is gettin` boring, and I can`t stand hip-hop. Jesus ****in` Christ, now I`m even listening to Enya and Maksim.

There's no such thing as too many rock bands, I rather have lots of crappy and copied rock from the 60's and 70's than all that crap that gets way to much airtime on the radio.

I do agree that some bands try to hard though some of the bands you mentioned are not exactly 70's rock. Just because they stick the word "The" in front of a name doesn't mean they are 70's rock. I can only think of a few boring rock bands but most of it I like and one thing is for sure, it's certainly better than your Top40 crap.

It`s not just because they stick the word "The" on their names, not at all. But their behaviour, their chords, their music, their vocals are all almost the same. They`re just like a manufactured pop-stars but the difference is that they use that 70`s persona on them. And that`s why I call them so boring after a while. I mean, what is the sound of the 21st century ? It`s like we are going back to 30 years ago and not develop creatively in music.

Well the current trend - be it fashion or music - seems to be leaning back to the 70's, which certainly isn't a bad thing because 70's style is cool as is the music. Obviously there will always be a few stinker bands somewhere in there and I agree that to a certain extend some bands get boring but the majority are good bands who do have that 70's style to them but come up with nifty riffs, music, lyrics.

You can tell where they draw their influences from but a bad rock band isn't half as bad as a "good" pop star.

I am so ****in delighted that you included "The Verve" in that list. They all went to my highschool, yes, including Richard Ashcroft. The funny thing is that, when they were at the school, they offered my DT teacher a free copy of their first cd, and he said
"Er no...I don't want any of that rubbish"
They're now available on ebay for something around £200 :D

He also said to Richard Ashcroft, whilst in a DT lesson, "You'll never make any money!"

Hehe...think of the millions he probably raked in from "The Drugs Don't Work" (UK Number 1) and the amazing "Urban Hymns" album. (H)

Funny how nobody mentioned The Darkness, now they are a 70's throwback "glam rock" band!

No way. The thing the sets The Strokes apart from every other one of these bands is their lyrics. Juluis Casablanca is a great songwriter.

Also The Strokes look wise are a throwback band but I think they have a unique sound not really that of a band of the 70's. If you have listened to them I think you would realize that.

The Strokes are a good band, I never said they weren't and they do have great riffs (reptilia springs to mind), great lyrics but I think Jet are a better band. The singer has a better voice, better guitar play etc.
