Can't put this into a top ten, there's too many, but from looking at some of you guys - for me Beckenbauer has to be higher than 8/9/10, the guy could play the game in carpet slippers.

Puskas needs to be in there, Zidane shouldn't be anywhere near that high. Neither should Ronaldo.

yeah, so I also reserve myself the right to eliminate what I believe to be frivolous choices, such as messi or something like that,I already told you above that some choices simply dont fit the billet....ie. C. Ronaldo, Messi, Del Piero...Mostly current players, with few exception, such as Ronaldo for example
I think eliminating people that you decide, defeats the whole purpose of the concept?

Just count them. They won't have a big influence on the end result.

Also, I dont think you should display results as you go. This gives people the chance to manipulate the votes. For instance, a Maradonna fan could see that Pele is currently infront, and so he could no put Pele on his list at all...

Well I will explain both decisions

First I eliminated frivolous choices simply to avoid the amount of work I have to do, also because that was precisely one of the criticism of the first poll, people that vote should not vote based on popularity but quality, this should be a good list, and you cant achieve that if you turn it into a popularity contest, I believe, but if people would disagree with me, then I guess I will count some of those questionable selections

For the second, I dont really see how a Maradona or otherwise fan could influence, the result other than voting the right people into the top ten, clearly, you can only vote once, so I dont really see how it could happen, unless people are doing little off-line alliances and stuff like that...again if it would make people happy then I will degrees from posting the results as I go

Yes, but if you're sensoring the list, then it is going to be YOUR opinion, not everyones. Which defeats the whole idea of people voting. You can eliminate stupid entries (people that put all people from one club/nation etc) but by censoring out some players, and not others you're opening a can of worms...How far do u go? Anyone who lists a player outside of YOUR top 15 doesn't count? (thats just an example)..

That, again is quite simple.
If you release a list, showing the top 10. And I'm a big Maradona fan, I coud see that Maradona is 2nd to Pele, and in third place is Cruyff. To improve Maradonas position, I could leave Pele and Cruyff off the list. If a couple of people did this, it could have a big bearing on the result.

This is one of the reasons why people keep voting in big boardroom decisions etc private.

Alex,

On the first thing, I see you point and I concur

on the second point, I dont see what you are saying, because again you did not address the fact that people are not able to vote twice, so outside of offline alliances I dont see how any one individual could influence the results...

I am also planning to do a starting 11 after we get a top 20, I figured we can place the highest voted player for each position and make him a starter...what do you think?

Here is a little help for you guys on making some choices, I plan to do this for every decade from 1930's on to 1990's early 00's....based on

Contribution to the success of their nation;
Contribution to the success of their clubs;
If a forward player, the quantity and quality of their goal tallies for club and country;
If a midfield player, the command with which they controlled matches, along with their goal tallies;
If a defender, the ability to foil high-quality attacks and take charge of their half of the field;
If a goaltender, the impact of keeping their team in contention during big matches;
He might be currently playing or retired;
He might have gone on to successfully coach a club or a country;
And most importantly, the type of legacy the player left in the wake of his career.

Here are my top players from the 1930's with a little note on them:

Jose Andrade - Uruguay (First Black player to play in European clubs. First great defender)

Silvio Piola - Italy (Pioneer at the winger position. Inventor of the Bicycle kick)

Giuseppe Meazza - Italy (Considered the greatest Inter Player of all time)

Jose Nazzasi - Uruguay ( Some Uruguayans call him their greatest ever. Captained the Olympic gold and world Cup teams of the 20's and 30's)

Guillermo Stabile - Argentina (First great scoring hero of South America)

Stanley Matthews - England (The European Pele, longest serving player ever. 33 years!)

Cliff Bastin - England (Prolific striker. He was Arsenal's top scorer until 1997 when Ian Wright beat his mark)

Leonidas - Brazil (A pioneer of fast dribbling and the bicycle kick also known as the Black Diamond. Top Scorer of 1938 WC)

Geovanni Ferrari - Italy (Only player to have won 8 Serie A titles, led Italy to 1934 World Cup)

Georgy Sarosi - Hungary (First great Hungarian player. Led Hungary to 1938 WC Final)

I agree with KingPaulIV about Callum...Your post is quite ironic...You spend the time posting to say that someone cares too much about something? Maybe you care too much about what other people think?

KingPaulIV: I mean people that havent voted, that are reading the thread are the ones that could change their order to effect the end result.

haha. I love people with these theories...You can only judge people on what they had to do...

It's like when people say that these players werent as fit etc because of how difference 100% professionalism has made things...The fact is, if Pele and Maradonna were around now, then they would also have had the extra technology and training etc...They STOOD OUT amongst their peers. if defence was so bad back then, howcome they looked so much better than everyone else back then? Why did this effect only a couple of players?

It's like when (in cricket if anyone knows) people say that Sir Donald Bradman only averages 99.94 because cricket was a different game then...yet for years career averages for the best batsmen have been around 50..This was true in Dons time, and in the present.

The same can be said for Football.

What is the average user age on this forum?

Seems like everybody's picking players that haven't been active for decades. Or players with famous names. Have you seen them play? Regularly? What is the point of picking them?

I'll toss in my votes. These are some of the players I've always enjoyed watching:

Ronaldo
Del Piero
Batistuta
Rivaldo
Suker

Zidane
Giggs
De La Pena

Smeichel
Llama

Kibe Kru

the point is that the thread is named top 10 players ever, not top 10 players you've seen play or top 10 players of the 90's. Do you really need to have seen Banks playing to know he's better than Robinson?
