well i started with Veracruz from the mexican league, and i think i got 1 1/2 stars as manager....then i went to benfica where i bought freddy adu and robinho and had 2 1/2 stars, and finally i arrived with the best team in the world, REAL MADRID ( i made a lot of money by selling players like nuno gomez at benfica and cuahtemoc blanco at veracruz, of course i sold some others and made over 125,000 in money. When i got to madrid i sold every player over thirty and made over 100,000...thats how i bought ronaldinho, chivu, fabregas,c. ronaldo, and xabi. i already have my eye set on some others like when ronaldo, raul, and salgado get too old.
You don't need a starting 11 of 90+ ranked players to do well in this game, far from it.
I'm just starting my second season, First with Newcastle.
At Leyton Orient I had a few talented players for that league, and they showed. My highest ranked player was Alan Scott (66).
I won 2 cups, lost one final, lost in the first round with another, but absolutely stormed home in the league with about 120 points overall.
Back to Newcastle, I cleaned the squad out.
In:
G. Glichy (Arsenal)
J. Pennant (Arsenal)
S. Wright-Phillips (Man City)
G. Johnson (Chelsea)
(these players are young, talented and are cheap for their skill).
Out:
About 5-6 players in total.
My squad is very powerful now

As you can see, I dont buy much, but when I do I buy investments. Except for Costiniha, I didnt check his age when I bought him
