And for the record, I too would be happy if Jose moaned a little less in future.
To be honest, I think his moaning helps Chelsea maintain the belief that they are truly the best team in the world. Had he said "Barca outplayed us and Asier made a few bad tackles to get sent off" then his players might think that Barca are the better team. Instead, they go to Spain with the mindset that they can still beat anybody in an 11v11 situation.

I remember Jose saying something a few months ago about not just talking to play mind games with other managers, but to keep the pressure on him and off of his players, and I do believe that it has worked.

Regardless, I still enjoy having a laugh at the things he says. :)

Yeah i know why he does it I guess and it is a strength, not a weakness as others might imply. Some people are just not smart enough to see through the words, and they take him much too seriously. Dont get me wrong though. I just love the way he pisses people off. I see how mad they get and its funny to see it.
All the chelsea hating media, in England at least, have dedicated the whole day to Jose. Every mug who can pick up a phone has contributed their bile to the phone ins. Mancs, scousers and gooners have predictably been flooding the lines in frustration and indignation, and the journalists and radio presenters have been on the verge of spontanious combustion trying to cope with their own emotions too. Today has been a funny funny day in the media, and i've enjoyed every moment. Would you believe that one man can get under so many peoples skin?.....What a legend

Everything Mourinho does is calculated and well thought out, that's what makes him the manager he is. Care to defect to the Red Devils mourinho? :read:

If you watch the sending off offence Del Horno pulls out of the tackle at the last minute by lowering his boot hence the intent wasn't there to hurt Messi.

As for the first offence you can't defend him there, that was nasty.

the red card was a joke, they bumped into eachother, no cleats up, no intent to hurt, no anything. Wow.

do you base all your opinions on what you read in the Spanish press. Get a life and offer some constructive comments instead of being so dull.

I know that it hurts man, but is the true. Furthermore when i contrasted with the english press, textually the translator saids " We can go to Camp Nou or not" (refering about the reserves,,,or dont play the macth, due "he´s a victim always, overall from the referees" in the tipic childist mourinho thing). Ok dont come....that´s your problem Mr. Translator....

If you think that im basing in the spanish press opinion, man....do you have eyes?? People posted "for you".... Take a lot to the "kicks" to Messi, please....this is not football man, is really horrible to see the first kick...pffff.....

The constructive comment is that Chelsea needs 2 goals on the next leg (if Barça don´t scores), the constructive comment is that Del Horno will not play the next leg. The only dull here are you man, always talking if that Chelsea this, Chelsea that, and blah, blah......again, eat that ego and asume that Chelsea was defeated, playing ugly football, by the best team now in the whole continent. That´s the real thing, in spanish, english, french or whatever language.

Ref could have seen it as a combination foul. That's the only way it could merit red.

1) The collision, 2) The play acting

That's the only was i can see it

Otherwise, yellow card.

Hey "the mind"
1. You've once again accused our club of racism. Check a few pages back and adjust your opinion. The match was held in England, not Spain.
2. We lacked motivation? Your boys only ran us ragged in the final 20. Before that, you were left guessing, and we showed a whole hell of alot more motivation, and more importantly, heart than your lot. But I wouldnt expect you to know what im talking about

I would make a joke about how giving brain, but im slightly above that ;)

They showed they were the best, because even tho playing against a 10-men Chelsea, i don't believe that any other team would own Chelsea like they did!
So they "owned" us when we were a man down? Did anyone watch the first part of the second half? Barca looked lost, and we were dominating the ball, and did so past the 60 minute mark. Then the goals came

Anyway a day removed, I see there are some good analyses coming from both sides. I still dispute the card on the grounds that the ref went about it the wrong way. If you want to drop a yellow for accumulated niggily fouls, then thats alright. But to change the complexion of the whole match by sending off one player after half an hour, thats unacceptable. He shouldve yellowed Del Horno the first time if he thought that tackle, plus the second (which was nothing, i repeat NOTHING, more than two fragile players clattering into eachother and then looking for a call: as toonarmy said, Del Horno pulls back his leg when he misses the ball, but the gif DT posted doesnt show that part) was somehow worth a red together. If he had given a yellow for tackle number one, which was very well deserving of it and a sloppy challenge, then DelHorno wouldnt have gone so rashy at Messi after that. Hence, he wouldnt have gotten sent off so cheaply. Do you see my reasoning?

Anyway, he went off and he deserved what he got, because he was being reckless out there overall. Reading all the posts on here, id say it came out very well for us, becuase according to every single person on here, we got totally destroyed out there, and yet were down by a goal. In two weeks time, we get Gallas back, and on that, and a full compliment of 11 players (unless UEFA sticks another one of Frisk's pals in charge...and yes, they are friends) then thats all I can pin our hopes on.

Mourinho's post match comments about sky were dead on (Y) they hate us, and Im glad he stuck it to them and called them out
His criticism of Messi is unfair, in my opinion, given the reaction of Del Horno. Both were equally disgusting, and both were clear instances of faking.
But the fact remains, he is doing what he always does, and its already working. People are talking as much about Jose as they are about the match, and i can only see that continuing for the next two weeks. I guess thats how he wants it, but whether its going to be effective or not remains to be seen.

If were going to win, weve got to get one or two quickly like last time, and then revert to a 4-4-2 or 4-5-1 arrangement with Duff and Cole playing on the outside. Because unless we have two men who can actually defend on Messi and Ronaldinho, were definately going to concede

one more vote for the correctness of the red card. for me it looks del horno went for messi, not for the ball. i'd give him a red even if messi got to jump out of his way.

but for me it would not be the only red card of the game. i mean, if i was actually a referee, i'd use the red way more often than most referees do.

Perhaps, but I think its far more likely that he got cardshy the first time becuase he didnt want to upset the game so quickly (thin, I know) and then rang him up on the second with that foul in mind. I already said it, but with a card in the first challenge, DelHorno doesnt even attempt a "challenge" like the second.

If play acting took any consideration in the refs mind, and for it Del Horno merited being sent off for what was just a clumsy challenge, then surely Messi, whose playacting was far more dramatic and terribly transparent, wouldve at least gotten a yellow

Its not necesscarily that, I dont think. He brings up the ugly stuff, gets the war of words started, and notice how the opposing players get into it, but our players will, in all liklihood, refrain. The pot gets stirred, and its fresh in the mind of his players, but they dont have that tension to perform in them when they get out there. Just the focus. That, to me, is the brilliance of Mourinho as a man manager, and thats why I have to laugh when people write stuff like "ohhh hes such an arrogant twat" because, while it may be true, theyre all getting wound up like they should. The guy wants people to hate him for a reason

You would give him a red for bumping into him? Is that a joke? It's not even the case of he was trying to stud him in the leg, cause he pulled his foot away, so it was just a bump, and that is all.

honestly i couldn't see him "pulling his foot away" when i watched the game and i can't see it now watching the highlights. anyway, a foot is only a small part of the body.

Here is a link to the clip in full. You can see him go in, whiff the ball and then raise his hands and pull back his legs as he collides. If it were half as malicious as people are claiming it was, then he wouldve just gone full steam, because he couldve run someone Messi's size over. You can hear the commentator saying that the ref was about to blow the whistle for obstructing Messi at the beginning of that clip, but doesnt. Certainly seems to support the theorey that he was unsure of what to call, or that the red was for that isolated incident, does it?

I should provide a warning, though: this clip has some nauseating, oscar worthy acting

Del Horno: Falls, glances as the linesman, and preceeds to grasp his face and neck.
Messi: falls, lands on his back, starts to get up, and then puts his hands behind him and starts rolling around...literally

And what made Robben think he could defend?

missing the ball or not, he did hit messi...although his movement does look more like he lift his foot in order to hit him more properly(H)

I think there'has been already enough talking about the red card. Otherwhise we should talk about the red card and the 2 penalies, as probably they weren't called because of the red card.

by the way, I can believe Chelsea is playing in a pitch like that. Barça played there once but you have to play there every week ... I think it must be a problem for you. I don't understand why isn't changed. It just takes a couple of weeks. What do you chelsea fans think about it?
