Louis van Gaal will become Barcelona coach next week if the club agree to his demand to sell Rivaldo and Partick Kluivert.
The former Ajax and Holland boss will be officially unveiled after the Champions' League final next week after agreeing a two-year deal worth around £5.2 million - but he will wait for the board to ratify his demands before completing his sensational return to the Nou Camp.
"I have a great desire to go back," Van Gaal declared. "There has not been a divorce between me and the club and therefore I can go back. I have spoken with [president Joan] Gaspart very often, but what is most important is that I want to return, Barcelona want me and that Gaspart wants me."
Van Gaal resigned from his post two years ago after a three-year stint that saw him lead the Catalans to two league titles, a Copa del Rey and the Champions' League semi-finals.
Sources within the club claim that the decision to bring back the controversial coach was a personal one made by Gaspart.
Van Gaal has handed the president a list of six players he wants to be sold and four that he would like the club to sign if he is to take charge again.
After busily preparing for his return in Amsterdam, Van Gaal has said he would like to see Rivaldo, Kluivert, Sergi, Abelardo, Richard Dutruel and Alfonso all leave the club. The only name to be leaked from his wish-list is Chelsea striker Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink. [...]
