Venables applies for South Africa job.

Former England boss Terry Venables has applied to become the new full-time coach of South Africa.
The South African Football Association (Safa) has revealed he was one of around 50 candidates to have put their names forward for the job.

Ted Dumitru is the caretaker coach of Bafana Bafana and will lead them at the upcoming African Nations Cup in Egypt.

Safa will meet next month to discuss who will take over from Dumitru, and it insists no decision has yet been made.

Although the list of applicants includes a number of high-profile names, Safa chief executive Raymond Hack insists every candidate will be considered for the job.

"The idea that anyone - Venables included - has an inside track or is in discussions with Safa is utter nonsense," Hack told South African newspaper the Sunday Times.

"Ted will report on the African Cup of Nations on 17 February - when the next executive meeting is held - and after that we will take things forward.

"We acknowledge receipt (of every application) and that's all - nothing is evaluated or discussed at any level of Safa.

"The irony here is that these many applications are not responses to an advertised vacancy."

As well as England, who he led to the Euro 96 semi-finals, Venables has also managed Barcelona, Tottenham, Leeds, Australia, Crystal Palace and QPR.

Former Rep of Ireland manager Brian Kerr has also applied for this position.

Elo Ratings
I loved it when Venables guided England NT during EURO 1996. He managed to create a determined team.

Hoping he would get a job for Bafana-Bafana & stay on course until WC 2010. (Y)

Brian Kerr would be another ideal coach.

That guy is a disaster. He won't take a chance and try to win a game. He lets his players get away with murder and couldn't motivate anybody on the team. I'm glad we have Stan STaunton and Sir Bob now, because they will have our NT back to our passionate best!

Is that Carlos Charlton and Micky passionate best or the actual passionate best?

After Terry's super career in entertainment, i just don't think that he is the right man for any management job at all.
