little quote: "ROME -- The government threatened to close some soccer stadiums Monday after 85 police officers were injured in a wave of fan violence across Italy.

Weekend games in Rome, Palermo, Udine, Cava dei Tirreni and Perugia turned violent, with visiting fans battling police at some railway stations as they were led away from stadiums.

"Another Sunday like this'' would lead to the stadiums affected being shut down, Interior Minister Giuseppe Pisanu said."

This isn't the first time. Remember the Roma game in which Ander Frisk recieved a lighter to the head?

Then the next week Roma played Leverkusen behind closed doors - When Dimitar Berbatov scored he celebrated to the imaginary crowd :D

I agree, not a pleasent site - no one, let alone a ref, deserves that kind of treatment regardless of the decisions made.

I wish the same actions would be taken in Latin America, especially in Argentina. It is very sad to see how a group of people that have "nothing to do with the real passion of football" (because someone who is passionate about football does not have to use violence to demonstrate how much he loves his club) are killing the enjoyment for the rest of the fanatics that had nothing to do with the violence. I do believe that there should be harsh actions taken against the club, so that they do not receive a simple "slap on the wrist" but they have to hurt them where it really counts, $$$.

I don't think it is that way, especially in Latin America. I do not know how it is in Italy or in Europe, but in Latin America, it seems that going against the established order is always acceptable. People have lost respect for the police and do whatever they want. Really disgusting in my opinion...
