Virtual Memory Headache!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Why do i keep getting low virtual memory warnings every couple of hours usin my comp? It says windows will increase the memory etc.... it came up about 4 times yesterday. I have just done a reinstall of winxp so i dont exactly have too many progs installed, i have 256mb Ram(SDRAM) and i know that the initial settings have to be 1.5 times your ram size and the max is 3x and ive set this but still keep getting this warning and windows keeps increasing the memory. Word?

try this... right mouse click on my computer and select properties at the system properties go to the advanced tab and click on the performances settings button the normal case will be to let windows choose what best for your computer... if that is already selected then it could be that you have too many program running behind.. e.g those spyware software or any software the run everytime you startup your pc... try to close those software that u hardly use and then reboot again... to check program that run from startup go the start and run type msconfig.exe go to the startup tab...hope this help...:p

ahh see, if i run msconfig and go to the start up tab im not sure which ones to stop running at startup, i dont want to stop a system file or something and screw up my pc. i have my antivirus and firewall progs running as well as msn mjsgr btw i have run adaware and it says theres no spyware in my system.

what about this svhost thing that i see when i run task manager thats eatin up about 27mb.

nah you will need the svhost... how much disk space you have left in your hard drive? virtual memory actually use your hard drive space...

i think the page file thingy is about 1gb now cos windows keeps increasing it my hd is 50gb i have about 47 - 8 gb left free, im not at home right now so i cant check specifics. but im sure the page file thing is over 1gb.
