Im not able to start Firefox, or run any kind of software that can remove this thing. It has slowed down the pc significantly.

windows live cd. Should be enough to make backups before formatting your hd / or clean up your pc (which isnt always 100% possible unless you really know what you're doing)

if you have used an anti-virus software but it doesn't work, so the only way you can do is recover your partition C: with Ghost, I always do that when my I can't kill viruses in my PC

How have you been able to track down the correct versions of all the relevant drivers? This is not a trivial step and if you've done it correctly, it would be great if you could share it with others who haven't figured the step out or have had problems.

I've had problems with this on more than one occassion, after reformatting.

Yes, i only had to update two specific drivers; Graphics and Sound driver. I had a cd fir the GFX card and HP website had the sound driver update.

For me, almost every driver was installed. I did have to re-install GFX driver, and sound driver. All I had to do was to update the driver.

piss easy. Just start your computer from your Windows CD and delete/format your HD. Just look online for XP installation guides. I'm sure there must be a guide with pics online somewhere

Backup all your files(documents, music, pictures, videos), emails(if you use Outlook Express or Microsoft Outlook) and internet favorites.

Then start searching for all the hardware drivers you will need.....video card, sound card, network card, etc. etc.
