Volleys and Headers

How do you strike hard shots on volleys and headers? I am able to volley on crosses but they usually just give a soft touch to the keeper. Same problem on corners, although i can rarely get a touch off the corner. If anyone has found consistent ways to do this please share. thx

haven't you watched footie on the tele. you can't get cosisten headers on goal from corner cause THATS THE WHOLE POINT!
In a real match is is possible that a team will get maybe only one header on target from a cornerr in a whole game. Teams RAREY score direct from a corner. THINK SON THINK!
FIFA 2003 is good- really good.

Also succesful hard volleys are pretty rare. I have succeeded in striking a beautiful volley at knee height with Vassell, and it was amazing. All those scissor kicks made us gamers blind in the past.

I agree with both your points and I see your point regarding corners. However on crosses during the normal flow of play I have seen many teams successfuly convert headers. In FIFA 2003 however i am only able to get weak volleys straight at the keeper. Im not saying its not possible to successfuly convert or that it should happen all or even most of the time. I just havn't been able to accomplish it yet and was wondering how others have.

Usually pressing the 'shoot' button (or so enigma told me) will make your player execute an ambitious diving header or other move instead of a playful lob into the goal.

Kasey, what team are you playing with? I play with the MLS teams and I'd say that if you're playing with a lower rated team, you're not going to see too many "exciting" moves. I play on Professional and even the computer doesn't pull off any "special" moves. A cross from Jesse Marsch to Ante Razov isn't going to be a sure thing because neither player is rated for those abilities - the chance of both players doing everything right is low.

Now Zidane to Ronaldo...that's a different story.

FIFA 2003 plays a very good game of MLS style soccer - or maybe I watch too much of it - anyway, when you get more experience I'm sure you'll identify the opportunities to pull them off.

I'm just glad I can pull off one-timers from the top of the box...

Ive never been able to do anything off of a corner, but i've scored off some beautiful volleys and headers. Just make sure that when your player is leading the defender, and you cross it to him, while tapping the shoot button, you should also aim, as that makes a difference. When done right, you can watch your striker jump up and flick a sweet header to the side of the keeper. Also, as cwhein said, it makes a difference who is heading, and what team you are playing as...

I don't think you want (or there should be) consistant ways to do these.

In real life football, a player volles depending on where the ball is (or going to be), the speed of the ball, the location of goal, defenders around him and whether, he can actually do the special move (i.e. Tony adams shouldn't be doing an overhead kick...ever). There for since the game has released the ball from the players whim (somewhat), the moves that you want to do should be based on real life factors. So they should be in rare situations with special players. My 2 cents.

Razov-9...

I see what you mean now. i was playing with the US national team before. I tried 4 games with Inter on semi-pro and converted 1 volley by crespo and 2 headers by vieri (one of which was diving) I accomplished both of these by tapping the triangle button on PS2, which is the button for headers. The shoot button seems to be kind of worthless.

I like the fact that player attributes and real life skills seem to have more of an effect on their performance in game.
