Wasted talents

Few days ago I started thinking about it, when I watched Bayern and looking on Santa Cruz. I would like to find out who you deem as a wasted football talents around the world. There's a bunch of players, especially in Europe which talent never exploded to that high which was expected to.

So, throw some names(H)

Van der Meyde and Van der Vaart, don't get me wrong, they're good players, but I thought that they'd do much better.

for me Riquelme has to be the biggest one of them all, very good player just never got to play at the level he is capable of for one reason or another. Also Alvaro Recoba.

Well, not generally known in Europe, but my pick is Jordi Hoogstrate: PSV bought him together with Robben from Groningen in 2002 (I think). Hoogstrate was supposed to be at least as talented as Robben and he would be van Bommel's successor... How different it is now: he has both mental and physical problems. He cant take the stress of professional football and besides he's always injured as well. Last season PSV loaned him out to Emmen but only played 6 games for them. A few weeks ago he got injured again, out for 9 months I think.

his career:
2000/2001 Groningen 1 match 0 goals
2001/2002 Groningen 24 matches 2 goals
2002/2003 Groningen 17 marches 0 goals
2003/2004 PSV 5 matches 0 goals
2004/2005 PSV 0 matches 0 goals
2005/2006 Emmen 0 matches 0 goals
2006/2007 Emmen 6 matches 0 goals

Daniel Carvalho aka Dani.

Louis van Gaal said back in 1996 that he had no doubt he would reach the top. He retired at an age of 27.

Dani, former Sporting, Atletico Madrid and Benfica player.

Peixe (H) (ex-Sporting, Porto and Benfica).

And of course Hugo Porfírio (H) (portuguese fans remember him for sure)

The two shouldn't be mentioned in the same breath. Van der Vaart is an outstanding player and he would be playing in a top team if he wasn't so loyal.

Still, there was an incredible buzz about him becoming great, and he hasn't yet, whilst others who had similar buzz have in the same timespan, that's all I'm saying.

Suddenly Luke Chadwick comes to mind... A natural phenomenon for all the wrong reason some seasons ago, some people even compared him to Ronaldinho...
