WC Matchday 16: [URU v KOR] + [USA v GHA]

I somehow felt that Stark was favoring Uruguay. He denied Korea a penalty and awarded several unnecessary freekicks in Uruguay's favor when South Korea were in good scoring positions. Also, he blew his whistle before the end of the 3 minutes when Korea were quickly on their way to the final attack of the match.
Anyway, South Korea blew two goalscoaring opportunities so they have themselves to blame for the defeat.

i agree. almost every call was in favor of uruguay. but korea's forward gook who came in 2nd half missed two clear goals....

Great goal to win the match. Only just noticed some of the Uruguay players jerseys have a collar and some don't.

The Von Trapps
super winner from Luis! he's certainly announced himself on the world stage ...

@Max: I can't see the big clubs not coming in for him this summer; but at least his transfer fee has gone through the roof, and will only continue to rise if his heroics continue ...

yeah noticed that ... either those players folded it in, or got the kit manager to cut the collar off ...

Starting XI
The USA look very tired to me, which is bad news because it's only the first 15 minutes. I saw Donovan and others using sniffing salt before the match to perk up.

And Tim Howard was out of position on that goal :nape:

This could easily be 3-0 or worse by the end.

I want to know what else they've been sniffing.

Credit to Ghana, they've been very good. But what a dreadful first half from the US. No surprise there, I guess.

The Von Trapps
Clark was at fault, but so was Howard ... and how is Findley still a starter?

Ghana have looked very confident in possession, but without really threatening the goal (nothing from within the box) ... I'm expecting more clinical play from Dédé Ayew and Kwadwo in the second half, testing Howard more often ...

Couple thoughts: first of all, Ghana had a pretty crazy press for the first ~30 minutes and took it off at the end of the half, although they're still applying a ton of pressure. Wouldn't surprise me to see them tire out around the 60 or 65th minute. Secondly, the USA players are just in love with pulling off individual brilliance. A lot of the times we lose possession, it's because we ignore the simple pass to try and beat a guy one on one, and of course it turns out wrong. Know why Landon Donovan is our best player? Because he always makes the simple pass, not because he dribbles around everyone or continually does feats of individual brilliance with the ball. Jozy, Deuce, Bradley, Clark are all guilty of this. It's stupid.

Finally, 4-3-3 beats 4-4-2, and it sure as **** beats 4-2-2-2. Team USA looks like they've never seen a 4-3-3 before.

Why do we keep gifting these guys goals every time we play? It's not like they need our help. It's 2006 all over again.

It's a real mystery. Needs to be Buddle or Gomez, but Bradley has some hangup about big tall athletic guys who score with every touch. Too bad for Edson.

Amen to all that.

In Bradley's defense, Buddle was pretty bad v. Algeria. I would have rather seen Dempsey up top and Feilhaber inserted into the midfield. And no Rico Clark.

I don't believe Feilhaber can play on the wing, so I'm against this.

EDIT: Well, here you go. I hope it's a 4-5-1/4-2-3-1, not still a 4-4-2.

I know this is stupid to even bring up, but does anyone else think Ghana are getting away with a lot of very obvious foul throw-ins?
