Someone explain to me why Rooney got sent off again, please?

maybe because he intentionally stepped on carvalho bollocks...he got the red for that, not for pushing ronaldo...

Starting XI
1. congratulations to portugal, and good luck the rest of the way. but please stop all the play acting. it ruins this beautiful game.

2. england played their hearts out today. the remaining 10 men were heroic. robinson and the back four, hargreaves, lennon, and crouch, especially. where was lampard?

3. i think the red card was given to rooney for the push, but i don't think that merits a push. ronaldo definitely instigated the situation. it didn't seem like the ref saw the kick in the groin. even if he did, it sure looked like it was just in the moment, and not intentional. how does he prove it was intentional?

4. it's tough to lose in a penalty shootout as it's a luck of the draw type of deal. but it sure looks like england have bad luck when it comes to shootouts.

5. i'm sad for england fans...while visiting england last month, i had an opportunity to meet many english and england fans. their passion, spirit, and love for their team is amazing, and i'm very sad for them today.

6. this was most likely beckham's last world cup game, and it was sad to see him in tears on the bench with the injury. the worst feeling for an athlete is knowing there's nothing you can do to help you teammates...it's disheartening. i hope england fans will recognize the loyal service he's provided for the last decade or so.

7. and i'm glad to see hargreaves and crouch silencing their many critics. i doubted crouch, but he's proved me wrong. i hope those england fans that booed hargreaves whenever he was introduced into a match will realize 1) you shouldn't boo or whistle your own player in a world cup, and 2) he is a fine player and definitely deserved his place in the squad.

I can't explain this...wow!
Actually, I think this game didn't deserve a loser. England played like heroes. Their defense looked unbreakable...amazing. Great job. But one had to lose.

Now, we stay in Germany until the end of the next week. :junior:

Btw, portugueses, vou comer bifes com laranja hoje ao jantar...alguém é servido? :junior:

Ronaldo wasnt instigating anything...he was just pointing out to the ref that rooney stepped on carvalho's manhood. He got pushed for that. Anyway i thought the red card was a bit harsh though

Poor brits. Every WC something tragic happens. Those crowds were so huge and loyal to be let down this way...

Without Rooney and M.Owen, all it takes is a lousy Lampard and England looses any other possibility to triumph.

i think you should look at the incident again... "just pointing out to the ref" may be one the understatments of the year

During the Holland game you guys were calling us thugs, now we're pussies. C'mon man, at least lose with some dignity here. I think for the most part, we've been pretty respectful after winning here, let's attempt to keep the thread civilized.

I think it's safe to say Ronaldo is leaving Man Utd. The bbc just showed a clip of Ronaldo headbutting Rooney in the back of the head just before kick off. Nasty little grease monkey.

I wish i could say im surprised we went out on penalties but im not , you get used to after a while when your an England fan.

Great game lads.

I think overall we may have deserved better, as although we were on the back foot for most of the extra time (obviously), we had the more clear cut chances.

Beckham did my head in today, all he can do is fall over to get his free kicks, why not try and win the ball you soft sh1t. Had Rooney stayed on with Lennon and Crouch it might have been another story.

Gutted for Rooney, it was a fair scrap at first as he fought well to win the ball in between 4 Portuguese players, then lost it. Can't really complain.

Lampard was a waste of space again... and Sven, what was the point of taking Walcott then???

PLaying for penalties was suicide.

Hargeaves MOM surely. He converted England's only penalty.
Maybe for England, surely not for both teams.

England had been hanging on by a thread all tournament, everyone kept waiting for them to turn it around but they never brought their A game. In my opinion they were the most boring team in the world cup. This is not helped by the fact that they tried to use Rooney as a lone striker today.

Lampard getting the start again was unbelievable. There's a difference between having faith in your players and being dillusional. Yes I know Lampard's a great player, yes I know he's magic for Chelsea, but he's being garbage for England these last weeks, and did not deserve a start. I would've rather seen Crouch in for Lampard, and Hargreaves and Gerrard in the center.

If Cronaldo does transfer out of England it will probably be the best situation for everyone. His style of play is really not suited for the English game and I can't imagine him and Rooney ever getting along after these. I would love to see what he could do in Spain.

As for Ricardo...just wow, completely clutch performance. Man of the Match hands down

Congrats to Portugal!
i was hoping for England but with Beckham,Lampard and Gerrard out of form, and Rooney trying to be a nut cracker it would not go Englands way!

In the Portuguese league he has a reputation for being a complete f*ck-up and totally unreliable....

Highly exagerated words.
Yes, he makes a blunder from time to time, but what GK doesn't?
Last season he concedeed 4 goals in the 2nd round of the league, 2 of them PK's.
The thing is that Benfica fans never pardoned him from signing for Sporting instead of Benfica in 2003, and Porto fans don't like seing him in the NT instead of Baía.
That's why every mistake he makes, even the ones that don't have importance, is always amplified.

Yet again, England pump themselves up convinced they will win a tournament.

Yet again, they lose.

England are just another Spain.

Pede, I hope you're f*cking hurting.

:D:D:D

well sorry to dissapoint you and all the other sweaty socks mate, but No I aint hurting. Every tournament we go through, getting knocked out just gets easier to bear every time. I am proud of the lads, even with 10 men for England, Portugal couldn't do a damn thing. I think it was a rivetting game personally, and we not only defended well but we took the game to Portugal too.

I think the goalscoring chances were about equal as was the open play. Hargreaves was fantastic today and I hope he now gets the recognition and gratitude that he deserves.

Lampard and Gerrard were both S.H.I.T throughout this tounament but to be honest Svens crappy 4-5-1 never has and never will suit English football.

Still there ya go. Bloody Congrats to Portugal, no hard feelings from me over your win at all. We'll be back in 2 years for the Euro, and we'll see you there my Portuguese mates.

Thats something the jocks will never be able to say huh Den. You pathetic little tosser revelling in another countries victories and defeats because your country is wank. Poor jock....wishes he was English , poor boy......

C. Ronaldo being sold by United? What are you all smoking, he will be promoted to team captain by Fergie after his heroics. Fergie will probably even personally buy him like a new house or something.
