WC Quarter-Finals: England vs Portugal [P]+[R]

One day you Scots might get your own World Cup quarter final thread to post on. Of course the internet will evolve hugely over the next 1000 years but it will be something resembling a forum.

England lost fair and square. Well done Portugal. IMHO you won't have enough to beat France but neither would England. Good luck!

Right, I feel I need to defend what I said and actually clarify what I meant for the deadheads among us. Firstly, I said that Portugal couldn't match us IF -- note the emphasis on IF -- we play to our full potential. I still stand by us being one of the greatest teams in the World, individuality wise. If we had a manager with some passion and just a little bit of tactical awareness and common sense (please, taking 4 strikers when 2 were injured and a 17y/o who has never played a premiership game is utterly ludacris) we would be playing France instead of Portugal. It was obvious to me that players like Lampard didn't get the motivation or freedom they wanted to express themslves fully. Lampard was a shadow of his Premiership self, as was Gerrard, as were many players in our squad. It was so sad to see World Class players being reduced to long-passes up to our lone striker. Get the ball down and pass for God's sake. Obviously the 4-5-1 formation didn't work so why stick with it? If we had more strikers then we would of played our favoured 4-4-2 formation, ala in Germany 5 years ago (1-5 if anyone has forgotten).

Sven has let us down. 3 Quarter-fianls isn't good enough for our nation.

I think they will be concentrating solely on getting Henry sent off in their next game.

I have recovered enough now to say fair play to Portugal and good luck in the semis. We were beaten fair and square (although I dont think you did anything special either). The sending off was Rooney's fault (you cannot be so aggressive in the world cup). We were not good enough. We would not win the world cup if they replayed it tomorrow because we are not good enough. No excuses just sadness...............

I see the English EMdia has found a scape goat in Ronaldo. thats what u guys do best. when ur mediocre team fails, u quickyly look for a scapegoat. from walker to seaman to becham and now ronaldo? was it ronaldo who told the thug - rooney - to step and attempt to destroy carvalho? Rooney is lucky i am not carvalho. i will sue him!
