WCQ Showdown: USA vs. Barbados [P+R], The Battle of the Former Colonies

no what was sad is that Dempsey was trying to get the ball back from the Barbados guy after he scored goal Number 6....like if he was in a rush....that's low class attitude there...I know a lot of the US players personally and I happen not to like a number of them as people.....

Really? Like who? Although I support the USA, this behavior from Dempsey bothers me. He looks like an @ssh0le! Lets see how they'll act when they get smacked by some powerhouse. seems like an arrogant bunch. I mean, Barbados for cryin out loud!

Well do you remember the old MLS franchise Miami Fusion? Im sure you do. Well I used to work for the Media director and since coach Ray Hudson liked me I used to be able to practice with them and I would go to the lockeroom all the time. The US national team did not have a "home" stadium at the time so they used to play a lot of their home internationals there at lockhart Stadium in Fort Lauderdale so with my media credentials I used to get in the lockerooms and stuff...anyway, I met Dempsey, Howard, Ching, Donovan, Cobi Jones (remember him) Tony Zaneh (he doesnt play for the US NT anymore either) and some others that play now...I also played some college football (soccer) at Penn State so I met some of the other guys thru playing in college and stuff....and yes Dempsey is an arrogant prick...I support the USA but to an extend...when they play certain teams i love more..(ie. Spain, Venezuela, maybe even Brazil) all bets are off

Dempsey's cockiness isn't what bothers me, it's that he doesn't back it up with his performances. Or at least, he hasn't lately.

Some pretty surprising scorelines across CONCACAF:

Belize 0-2 Mexico
Trinidad & Tobago 1-2 Bermuda
Grenada 2-2 Costa Rica
Haiti 0-0 Netherlands Antilles

Sure they're adults and they can take it.. but I'd hate it if an injury is caused because of the continuous scoring and celebration..

I hear Mexico struggled.. Also, Brazil lost. But they are just saving their strength for later on.

That's what worries me, the last thing you want is to piss off some hot head and have a player carried off with a snapped shin.

nothing wrong with destroying a team. it can be done with class however. everybody saw this coming, but you still can't act like that. US had this in the bag in the opening minute. i would really like to see them qualify, just to compare their body language against true opposition. i have nothing personally against them, they however remind me of that bully in the schoolyard who goes around boasting and teasing little kids until he gets his ass handed to him by a bigger brother. can't wait to see it happen.

but really though, good confidence booster. maybe they can take on my indoor soccer league next. we play much rougher though.

Hell... Jamaica thumped Bahamas 7-0 last night and still treated them like tourists... a good performance does not require cockiness.

What did the US players do exactly that was so offensive? Dempsey asking for the ball after he scored, and then walking away when the Barbados player refused? It's not like the US players broke out into some dance routine after each goal they scored. Really, what did they do? What kind of sportsmanship gesture were they supposed to make? Stop playing and let Barbados put one in the back of the net so they could feel better about themselves?

They were all giddy and smiling, laughing like little schoolchildren, as i f they won the World Cup! Usually when teams run up the score like that they just treat it as doing business. No need to be happy about punching an old lady!

I mean, c'mon, think of Michael Jordan playing 1 on 1 vs. you! Think he'll be ecstatic about beating you?

OK, I'm going to get the memo out to them, and next time they'll make sure to frown after they score.

I didn't see anything egregious out there, just brief and modest celebrations. There's nothing wrong with congratulating your teammate after a goal, or being happy that you scored, no matter who the opposition is. This is a World Cup qualifier after all, it's not a scrimmage.

I swear, some people in this country will look for any reason to denigrate or demonize our national team.

as I stated I happen to know a lot of those guys and they are not the nicest people that is why I personally dont like them, but football wise, there is something called class, I am sorry but for me they didnt have it. They could have scored 32 on them as long as you do it with class, I saw the same sort of thing when el Salvador played against Antigua in another qualifier and they won 12-0 at home and celebrated every goal as it was against Germany or something in the world cup final... sure they are adults, sure they can take it, but as a football player you have that unspoken bond and respect for your fellow player, when you somehow try to embarrass them and let them know that they suck with every goal you score, that is classless to me
