WE6 : Offside bug

Awax

Senior Squad
Hi -
I was playing with a friend, 2 in the same team. I passed all the defenders and he (the guy playing with me) made a run next to me. So we were 2 in front of the goal, with all defenders behind us. When I was close to the goalkeeper, I passed the ball to him so it was wide open to shoot. Then the big damn offside whistle came. When it showed the replay, the yellow line was between us, like if there was an invisible defender, and we of course werent offside. We left all defenders behind us so its impossible. It happened 2 times while playing 2 in the same team. Anyone already experienced that ? well I hope it will be fixed.
See ya!

Indeedy, sounds like you were indeed offside.

why offside ? since I passed the last defender and he follows me on the left hand side (i was in the right)

Your miles offside. To paraphrase the ruling:

You are offside if you are in advance of the ball when it is played, AND if the player receiving the ball is beyond the last defender when the ball is played.

Now there are some sub sections which provide exceptions:

1) If you are not intefering with play.
2) From a throw in.

this means in your case because when you passed the ball you were both beyond the last defender, and then when you passed it to your friend he was in front of the ball he is offside.

The only way he can be onside is if he is behind the ball when it is played, now this is a lesser known rule! And FIFA was renowned for not implementing this particular rule. Not sure in WE6

Anyway thats how i believe it works!

Awax,

when you play the final pass, if your friend is closer to the goal than the last two players in the opposition team (normally the goalie and the last defender) and is also ahead of the ball (ie. you play a forward pass), then he is off-side. Because you had passed the last defender, there is only one opposition player (the goalie) closer than you friend to the goal, so your friend is in an off-side position.

I think that if you had been closer the goal than your friend and played your pass backwards, off-side would not be called.

"pass backwards"

Doesnt matter if it goes forwards as long as he is behind the ball when it is played.

A goal was scored last year in the EPL exactly this way..

Having played a lot of multiplayer matches in WE6, I can safely say that the game is NEVER wrong. If you do pass to the open guy, it will not be an offside if he's behind the ball.

Good call (remember Italy-Croatia....hehe :) )

It was only as offside if the ball is played forwards - the game will sometimes call offside for squared balls.

I've witnessed a couple of dodgy calls in relation to "2nd phase" offside. 1 of my attackers was in an offside position as the ball was played into the box, but ran onside - then my other forward won a header and hit the bar. When the ball bounced back the first player had ran back to his original position and was deemed offside as he volleyed the ball into the top right corner.

There's actually a bigger bug with offsides in WE6/PES2. If the keeper comes out and is behind the defenders (from an attacking point of view), then no matter how onside you are when you pass to another attacker, if he's in front of the keeper, he's called offside. Which is false.

Yeah a friend of mine abused this constantly by just bringing his goalie out. Didn't work most of the time, but it pisses you off. ;-)

PES seems to treat the 'keeper as a special player. AFAIK, the offside rules stats that there must be two players goalside of an attacker when the ball is played _forward_. Naturally, it is assumed one of these is the goalie, but I don't think it is actually in the rules that the goalie has to be one.
