WE7I Vs WE8I

Ok, up until last year I was a FIFA fan all the way. I read about how WE / PES was all that etc... I downloaded the PES3 demo and had a great time playing it with my logitech controller (the one that looks and feels like a PS2 controller). When I read about WE7I coming to the US, I purchased a PS2 and got the game the next day, and again, had a blast. I told a friend about it (he was a FIFA fan like myself) and I let him play on his own and he loved it. So anyway, after playing the game for a year, like most of us, I was egerly awaiting for WE8I to come out. I managed to get the game yesterday from EB and played it for about an hour. At the moment I am having mixed emotions about the game, in particular the animations. In 7 animations were very fluent, especially if you had the ball and were running. If you had to run around someone, the players body would "sway", it was very fluid and looked and felt great, in 8 however, I don't see this as often. It seems the whole body of the player turns, and doesn't sway, giving a slightly unrealistic feeling? I understand the game is now more responsive, but it feels too responsive. When I have the ball and I'm passing it around it seems like the players are almost like ball magnets. I was able to get the ball from 1 end to the other by passing in about 3-4 seconds, granted you could do that in 7, but it took longer, which I liked; It's like your always hitting your targets to quickly. Perhaps I'm just use to 7 and will need some time to adjust to 8 and the way the game now players, but it is a vastly different game than 7. I'll play the game some more of course as 1 hour is not enough time to judge a game, but I was wondering if anyone else has the same feelings?

I felt like you did at first but play a bit more and watch closely. After a short while I noticed that some of the animations this year are really spot on and there are a lot more. Also, it's not as easy to dribble which ups the realism.

I know exactly what you mean about it seeming different, I was really worried I was going to be disappointed but after getting in to the swing of things, I'm really impressed.

Goalie response seems to be better, crosses/corners are much harder to score on and the AI seems to be much more advanced.

I think this is going to throw a lot of people at first because there's no waltzing through the back line on lower-stars, you have to beat them for pace, pass it around, go outside.

I'm seriously impressed after the initial shock and the front-end (presentation, menus) is beefed up and way better than before. A lot more depth in options this year as well.

Now all we need from Konami is Widescreen, HD and online and the Next-gen is going to be unbeatable. Not like FIFA had much of a chance in the first place.

Alrighty, so I've been playing 8 for the last few days, quite a bit actually, and after my initial posting, I've come to the conclusion that after giving the game some time, I do enjoy it a lot more than 7, but the game is still not without it's unrealstic moments at times. I've read that 8 is slower than 7, and in some ways it is, particually in the midfield where if you have the ball, you have more time to pass it without having to pass it off quickly or run with the ball just to try and maintain possession. The game a little bit easier than 7, (If you have never played this game, 8 is the way to go for sure), in all aspects. It's great to see your team now working as a team more, making runs and finding open space. Once you have the ball, passing it off works great, it's much easier to pass to 3 or 4 people from just after-touches or quick throughballs. It's harder to score, which is a good thing, and perhaps it's just me, but it's easier to perform some of the skill moves? While on the subject of passing, it does seem more unrealistic than 7 to pull off some of the quick passes in certain situations, a lot of the time in a real game, some of those passes you pull off would be hard to do let alone hit your target perfectly, but it's all in the name of fun, and gives you some mean bragging rights if you score from situations like that. The crowd sounds good this year, very realistic, especially when you shoot and miss / the goal keeper saves, you hear the crowd start to cheer, (yeaaaaaaaaa) and when it doesn't go in, you hear the ohhhhhhhhhh!, it's very cool. Overall I'm enjoying the game much more than 7 and I'm ready for 4 *'s I think now :)

Soccerulez: To turn off VSync, if you have a GeForce card, go in to your display properties and access your NVidia tab. In there, (I forget which menu option on the left it is), you'll see VSync. Slide the bar to off. You cannot adjust VSync within the game.
