WE8I PS2: Corrupt Files! Help!

ive been playing a master league on we8i on my ps2 since feb and have gotten my team to the point of total domination after five seasons. when i went to load the game yesterday it read corrupt files. i restarted the game but it keeps saying the same thing. how and why does this happen? is there anyway of solving it? thanks.

That usually happens when someone turns off the system while it's either saving or loading..happened to me when I had WE6i....since then I always have a backup file

actually i now recall turning the ps2 off prematuely and wondering if i had saved it yet or not. i guess not! thanks. what a waste of time and effort that turned out to be.
