What do you look for in a Captain?

Phoenix

Reserve Team
Playing in my second year as Man Utd and I have just sold Keane (might as well cash in now before i lose him for nothing, got 9mil anyway). But now I am left with the problem of who should captain the side.

What are you looking for? Good influence, workrate and teamwork ratings?

From the normal squad who would you recomend. As it stands its a toss up between Ferdinand and Butt (Both Nevilles have been sold)

Delly

Reserve Team
I look for high stats in Bravery, Decisions, Determination, Influence, Off the Ball and Teamwork.

JTNY

Starting XI
Just go for 20 influence, I am not sure if it matters... but sometimes when my team plays rat****, it is when my GK is captain accidentally. I think...

No, players that have been at the club for a while work better as captains. I look for loyalty and proffesionalism as well as the ones mentioned above (not bravery and off the ball, btw).

Andreas

Senior Squad
And the captain should be able to play almost all of your matches, so you won't have to sub him off and switch captain all the time (obviously). So therefore, Stamina and Injury proneness are also important stats.

Determination, Influence and that he has been at the club for 5 years or more. Also it's preferable if some people have comments like "Honoured to be at the same club as x" etc. That's why I chose Steven Gerrard at the moment.

A defender/defensive mid seems to bee a good choice in real life as they "see all the pitch": a striker usually can't be arsed to do everything like a captain should. (Take gerrard: he passes, tackles AND shoots)

why this thread hasnt been done a million times.

Take what Delly said, minus the off the ball, add a little some Ruud and throw in some of Dave for flavour.

There, Spirito de Punto.

I always chose my DMC as a captain, if he has the stats and the influence. Although on CM4, when i named Ronaldo as a captain, he scored everygame, and i won every god damn tournament. But you'll be better off with someone already from the club, with good influence and stats. And dont put your GK as a captain, in my experience your team is likely to lose.

someone once told me that if you set an attacking player on CM as your captain then you score more goals, if you set it as a defensive player you consede less. lol

About the conceding part it doesnt look like it for me, but in the other hand, when i put Ronaldo as my captain, at least HE scored like mad. Pretty relative though, on 03/04 Gerrard is my captain, and i conceded over 30 but scored over 105 goals. Couldnt win the league though, lost it to Man Utd by 2 points.:(
