What is the best formation?

having just completed my first season with middlesbrough on FM 2006 i am wondering what the best tactic is to play with my team as nearing the end of the season i began to lose games which i would have won earlier in the season with the same tactic! madness i know! can anyone provide aid to my ailing form. btw i finished 5th. and only got 450k transfer funds. Gibson is too tight! :kader:

Has anyone here made a succesful 3-5-2? I am thinking of starting a game in either Brazil or Argentina and will try to make one. I think that wingbacks are very important in this versions game so it will be interesting to see how they work.

yeh we discussed it in the Tactics 101 thread Socrates, if you decide to have a crack at it, make a new thread.

I have NEVER seen a well-working 3 defender system on FM06 or 05.

I though I had a good 3-5-2 system with Argentina, beat the Czechs 4-0 in the quarter finals but lost to England 5-1. :(

I completly owned Quatar 9-0 but get beaten by better teams (lost 3-1 to Brazil in 3rd place game) so the tactic works really well against ****ty opposition, making amazing attacking plays, but against top teams you get torn appart.


guess what ... Australia made it to the finals in that game :| , I would have won it for sure.

Good idea, I will need some help as I am not so great with making a strong defence. I like to think of myself as I can always outscore you type of manager(H)

I have a 5-3-2 (does that count? 3 central defenders and 2 wingbacks that go all the way up to winger) that I think I have made as best as possible. I've used it with Sevilla and Atletico, and in both games I have completely owned. The defense is a bit of a problem, but it's definitely not a leaking goals kind of thing. It's just not as solid as a 4-back system.

I don´t think diablo´s is very useful in 2006 as it was in CM 03/04. But sometimes my midfielder in forward runs scraps some goals, around 10/15 per season (Moutinho or Joao Alves, btw ;P)

Timmy Cahill always scored 25+ as an AMC for me and was always my topscorer. An (A)MC penetrating to the striker position is still very effective but isn't a guarantee for 10 to nothing victory every match.

The 4-4-2 for me is the only way, although i've only sometimes experimented with different formations, I always have a holding midfielder though.

No.

The Right Midfielder and the Left Mid are more important.

Its similar to Diablo becouse of the 4-1-3-2.

4-1-3-2 for me. The 3 midfielders are two wingers and one central midfielder. The DM never runs forward so he will not get goals.
