Well for me it looks like you're just holding down the sprint-button and the direction-key in the same direction as the ball is going.

If you press/hold down run the moment the ball is to make it to your feet you will let it run past you. I guess you pressed run at the moment it was to connect and then changed direction. Happens all the time to me.
