What will happen to Parma?

Now that Parmalat announced bankruptcy, what will happen to Parma?
Isn't the club Parmalat's propriety? Or it's just the main sponsor?

the club isn't exactly owned by parmalat, but in a sense, it is, as the company is the main source of backing for the club. dunno if that makes any sense. but since parma and parmalat are tied, there is a direct relationship. so since parmalat is on its way towards bankruptcy and a supposed enron-like scandal, parma is pretty much screwed.

there are a lot of other legal issues and loopholes that could maybe save parma, but many believe parma won't survive in serie a, which is a major disappointment. so, i guess liquidation and trying to sell of assets will be an option for the club. rumor has it nakata will be the first to go, as he is the highest wage earner on the club. we might as well say goodbye to adriano after this season, and bright young talent like matteo ferrari and gilardino would probably be sold off too. sucks, yo.

He should go to Fulham, along with Prso. :rockman:

Milan appear to have won the race to land Monaco forward Dado Prso, according to the Croatian international's agent.
Premiership trio Portsmouth, Fulham and Newcastle United, along with Scottish champions Rangers, have all been keeping tabs on the 29-year-old.

But they have been pipped in the race for Prso's signature by reigning European champions Milan, who are due to wrap up the swoop in January's transfer window.

Prso is out of contract at the end of the season and Monaco are cashing in on the Balkan hit-man, who has scored five times in the UEFA Champions League this season, in the New Year.

According to Prso's representative Marko Naletelic, discussions with Milan have progressed smoothly and the deal could signal the departure from San Siro of Danish attacker Jon Dahl Tomasson.

Naletelic is not anticipating any complications in finalising the transfer but did reveal Milan's fellow Serie A side Sampdoria are Prso's back-up option.

"Prso will be going to Italy," Naletelic told Croatian daily Sportske Novosti.

"The negotiations with Milan are in process as the Italian side are very keen to get their hands on him.

"Still, we can say that the possibility of completing the transfer is very, very high.

"The second option will be Sampdoria but only if the negotiations with Milan fail."

but as for parma, yea it is sad to see this happening.

sucks for Parma... they are my favorite side in Italy along with Modena. :(

i hope they dont suffer this bankruptcy because almost everyone would forget about them even though they are a good team... just like what happened with Fiorentina, hope it doesnt happen.

Does this mean that Inter Milan will probably get Adriano at the end of the season on the Co-ownership policy?

well i doubt parma will have any kind of cash to make an offer for him. and since inter does have first dibs on adriano anyways, i'd assume inter would be the most likely destination.

at least their players will go cheaper

not really. clubs will bid for the players the same way as before. Also the football club is worthless when compared to the 2.6 billion....so AC Parma may continue outside of the Parmalat situation. the club's debts however are different. Player's contracts could become cancelled also, as they have not been payed!

i heard this morning that there is gonna be an extroadinary meeting of the parma board
the two possible outcomes of this are
1. parma tries to sell all its top line player in a bid 2 eliminate debt (frey, nakata, adriano?, bresciano)
2. parma officially becomes nothing as of 1/1/04

wat ppl dun understand is the exact situation
parma's main sponsor is parmalat, parmalat promised parma money and thus the club continued to buy players, parmalat now is bankrupt, now parma has now money to pay off debts

there is also a proposed law that allows clubs 10 years to pay off debts instead of 2-3, this may save parma if it is passed
