Uruguay has won twice I believe. The famous "Maracanazo" if I'm not mistaken was the second time they won.

Correctomundo, but since el Maracanazo tradition says that Uruguay is cursed "La Maldicion del Maracanazo" since that famed victory international triumph has been hard to come by for Uruguay and they have struggled getting to and playing in world cups in spite of great talent.

There was a period maybe a decade or more after 1950 when Brazil would not play Uruguay in Maracana for fear of a repeat....and also Ademir who was the star of that ill fated Brazilian team and arguably as good as any of the great Brazilian starts has been forgotten and erased from history for losing that final......

freaky huh?

Didnt Brazil lose to Uruguay because they played in White Shirts. I think that is the only logical explanation. Everyone knows Uruguay sucks.:D

hehe, well actually that is another Kabala or superstition that erupted from that game. Brazil will never again play in white shirts......

You would think that more than 52 years after they wold have forgotten but they never do, Brazilians never forget El Maracanazo.....just like Argentinians never forget this scoreline:

5 - 0

Ha, Uruguay were at Football superpower at the time. If you look at the squad list for that game, the entire team is legendary. Players who are honoured to this day by there clubs. The most famous passed last year and Milan wore a special armbrand to remember him. His name was Juan Alberto Schiaffino. Many more legends come to mind, Maspoli the goalkeeper was phenomenal, also Ghiggia.

Of note too is that Uruguay won 2 olympic gold medals before the 1930 world cup.:hump:

Great footballing history in that country, you should show respect before making a statement like that, not everyone here likes hearing things like that said about their country. I'm sure that someone else(Ruben Sosa) will turn the tables on you shortly.;) :kader:

What happend is a great story, and from what I heard over an MLS broadcast a movie is in the works, focusing on the US team? Not sure if that is true, hopefully someone can clarify that.

I'd like to know what would have happend if the Gold Cup Final had been in somewhere outside the heights of Mexico. If you don't remember, the best campaigns of Mexico in WCs were in 1970 and 1986, when they were hosts. Was this just because they played at home? Come on, we all know the effects of the heights in the performance of all players. It's about less oxygen and a different dynamics of the ball. That's a lethal gun and I must agree that the Mexicans know how to use it better than the Bolivians. Playing football in La Paz should be forbidden. :)

Anyway, I'd like to see Uruguai again in the spotlight. I wish we could show that the CONMEBOL and CONCACAF teams are as competitive as the UEFA teams. Or at least we should be able to reduce the CAF/AFC/OFC berths in WC to 3. I never understood why they give 5 berths for CAF.

There's a curse on Uruguay alright, it's called Casal.

We've failed to shine on the World stage in the last decade, you'll get no argument from me there, but during this period we've been decent at Copa America, winning one and reaching the final and the semis despite taking B squads on the last 2. I'm very proud of what Uruguay has accomplished in the past, I doubt a nation as small as ours can even come close to equaling our past glories but "... mejor que la historia, será el porvenir".

As for turning the tables on Scott, there's no point in even wasting time. His head is so far up his ass he wouldn't even notice.

About the dickheads who mentioned Argentina not qualifying past group stage-Did you guys NOT see the WHOLE Swedish team defend the goal like little pansys? That match IMO was a disgrace to how the game should be played.

And also if you notice he IS Argentine, so if there's a reason he's going aggainst you when you beat Brazil, it should be a pretty good one...

oh yeah 2-0

Thats sad that when people try to prove that the US is better, which they're not, this is the only thing that they bring up to appear superior, No CONCACAF team will ever take Mexico's top spot until they do as much as Mexico has done.

Me too...oh wait, that already happened, twice, and we won both of those finals also. (H)
