Just wanted your advice. I'm looking into puchasing a football game for PC either FIFA 06 or PES5. So which one should I get and why? Also are their good utilities for PES, if yes wwhat are they? Because ii already can ssee a problem of me whanting to add a custom league, players, faces uniformss and so on. Ok one more question how realistic are the graphics and player movements in either, cause i player a demo on PS2 and the graphics were pitiful ( butt i guess thats just PS problem)
Anyway would like to hear dsome consstructive criticism of both games :lui:

If you want a quick pickup and play game then get FIFA. If you want a very in depth football games get PES5/WE9. As for editing, has nothing on PES5. PES has a very very nice edit mode. It even allows you to make boots. PES even allows you to make formations giving you almost infinite options(any formation your mind can think of, no matter how odd looking, you can make) Since you will be looking to play the PC version, Juce has made a tool named kitserver for PES/WE. This allows you to have as many different kits as you want for each team. It also has a faceserver and boot server built in as of the latest versio. This will allow you to replace any players face and add hundereds of different balls. I would say get PES if you are looking to edit and want a game with depth. If you just want to play quick games of football get FIFA.

In career mode of PES5 how many seasons can you play? Can you add a league in PES5 and what existing leagues are in there I'm looking for a fact sheet something like this:
http://www.fifa06online.com/manager/begin.php
Oh, one more thing which has better smoother graphics? (C)
I bought NFL 06 and even though the game play was pretty good the editing functions were limited and overall below average so with a given history of very rigid fantacy factor of EA games I want to explore other options.

P.S. I heard that PES had some player graphic collision problems and the ball physics make it almost imposible tto stick the pass. Another concern is the AI.

Thanks for speedy reply :rockman:

Oh my god!!!

I just downloaded both PES5 demo and FIFA06 and PES wins hands down, it's not even close in fact. The graphics are WAAAY ahead of FIFA. I mean the players in FIFA06 look like a bunch of silly potty figurines. Gumby would fit right in the line up of AC Milan. Same thing about gameplay. In FIFA AI is just reading you controls so whereeverr you go AI follows you like a shadow, there is no way to overrun the defender even if its freaking Rooney the whole thing stinks to high heaven with sloppy development... LAAAAAAME. On the other hand PES gives you a feeling that you can be as unpredictable as AI plus the oposing players don't justt charge at you head down but rather try to box you in or cut your lanes which is SOOOOOOOOOO much more realistic. The sad part is that PES doesn't have FIFA liicence so I can already foresee long ours of editing :nape: (C)
but on the other hand who cares the game is AMAZING and FIFA 06 in comperison is a second rate parody on what a real game suppose to be.

There is no more question in my mind which game I'm buying. PES 5 all the way Aleeee ale ale aleeee.

In generral I would like to state that EA sports that instead spending so much money on all the sports licences they should pick one sports and excell at the game development instead we get 'autheentic' lamos while other companies with less money and more brains like 2k sports or Konami create masterpieces.

E A Sports... Its in the trash. :rockman:

At this point, you wont have to spend long hours editing as there are many patches you can build on and there are plenty of kitserver folders that have every kit. All you will have to do is download one of these. Of course, you can start from scratch by yourself, but why do that when others have already done it and give you up to date rosters. :ewan:

I'm glad you were looking for a more real football game and not just a quick EA crap game. Had you told me that, I would have told you to never even waste your time downloading FIFA and to just go buy PES/WE now. :)

Well Ukranik I hope you don't mind me hitching on to your thread. I have the same question though, and I don't want to start a new thread. My questions may be a little off, since I don't know soccer well, and I don't know either of these soccer series hardly at all. But here goes.

I am looking to buy a PC game. One of my main concerns is getting a game which has as many club teams from around Europe as possible, but especially from England. In fact, I would love the smaller English leagues too, and might want to create a team even to add to a league. What are the differences in FIFA06 and PES5 in this regard?

I want to find out all of the clubs which are available for use in these games. Is there a list somewhere?

Also, what are the leagues available to play in? Do they have real leagues like the EPL? Can the club teams qualify for the UEFA Champions League each year? Do they have any smaller national leagues, or do they just have the highest league for each country?

Can you create a team as well?

As you can see, I just don't know how the games are set up. I know that FIFA has the licenses, but it sounds like PES5 has patches that can make these real club teams available. BUT, will they actually look like these clubs? How good are the patches. On the other hand, it sounds like PES5 is customizable, so I might be able to create the leagues that I like better than FIFA, if FIFA doesn't have them all either.

What does everyone think?

Oh, I almost forgot. I am assuming that both games has in its "career mode" the option to play in "post-season" cup tournaments of some type. What about the WC every four years. In fact, do they allow for national teams at all, or is it just club teams?

FIFA has smaller club teams by default, but there are plenty of patches that add lower clubs to PES. Also, PES will allow you to create teams if you wanted to with the in-game editor. You don't need to use an external one unless you want to patch it, but you can still create whatever you want.

Both games have league seasons.

Yes, in PES you can.

Yes, they will look like theses clubs. PES already has all the real players for the clubs with their real names and looks, the team names are just changed since there is no license.

How good are the patches. On the other hand, it sounds like PES5 is customizable, so I might be able to create the leagues that I like better than FIFA, if FIFA doesn't have them all either.

PES is far more customizable straight out of the box. Patches are of very high quality for PES also.

Thanks deftonesmx17.

I got a list of leagues you can play in for FIFA 06:
Code:
leaguename
Denmark SAS Ligaen (1)
Belgium Jupiler League (1)
Brazil Campeonato Brasileiro (1)
Holland Eredivisie (1)
England Premiership (1)
England League Championship (2)
France Ligue 1 Orange (1)
France Ligue 2 Orange (2)
Germany 1. Bundesliga (1)
Germany 2. Bundesliga (2)
Italy Serie A (1)
Italy Serie B (2)
USA Major League Soccer (1)
Norway Tippeligaen (1)
Scotland Premier League (1)
Spain Primera Division (1)
Spain Segunda A (2)
Sweden Allsvenskan (1)
England League One (3)
England League Two (4)
Poland Idea Ekstraklasa (1)
Rest of World
International
Austria T-Mobile Bundesliga (1)
K-League (1)
Switzerland Super League (1)
Portugal Superliga (1)
Mexico Primera Division (1)
FIFA Career Saved Teams
World League

Are most or all of those leagues then available for PES5? What about the smaller English leagues below EPL? I am assuming I will have to get a patch for all of this.

And, if I do well in a top league, I am assuming I can play for the Champions League cup after that...right?

It sounds redundant from your answer, but I really want to know specifically. Thanks for bearing with me, and again, thanks for your help. Cheers.

PES has these leagues by default.

Eredivisie
EPL
Ligue 1 Orange
Bundesliga
Serie A
Primera Division
International
Other (known teams from various smaller leagues around the world)

With FIFA and PES its a quality vs quantity issue. PES is of higher quality while FIFA has more quantity. PES has a very large range of stats to make up your players where FIFA only has a few. This is where I say it is of higher quality. Players are more of individuals is PES. In FIFA, way to many players look identical to others plus they all seem to run the same and dribble the same etc. In PES you can tell your individuals as there are many different driblling styles, freekick styles, etc. As for the UEFACL, I don't trhink either game lets you do a CL in standard season mode. Its been awhile since I played other than quick matches in FIFA so I can't say for sure about it, but seeing as FIFA releases a UEFA game as a separate entry, I don't think you can in FIFA either. PES has the master league which is like a fake UEFACL sinc e they have no license.

Since neither game is brand new right now, they can't be that expensive at this point. I say you do what I do, buy both games. Play PES as your main game when you want to play in the big leagues and have FIFA as your game for when you wantg to play something such as the MLS. IMO PES is a much better game on the pitch, but FIFA does have all the lower clubs that one might want to use from time to time, just don't expect the gameplay to be that great. :)

Thanks for the response. Hmmm, so neither game allows you to play a team through from their league play to the Champions League cup? That is too bad. But I guess the Master League of PES5 will work. If I play a league season, can I only play teams from my league, or may I add international teams to my schedule just as "friendly" matches too?

In career mode when you play a in a league, does the computer run the other leagues too, so you can see their results, or is your league the only thing "going on" when you play in it.

Are there patches to add/replace so that you can use the lower English leagues?

And lastly, since I am in the US, is there much difference between WE 9 and WE 10? If not I will go with the cheaper one. Do both have the leagues you listed, and can both be patched to add more teams and leagues. Thanks again for your help.

Thanks to the people here, like yourself, I went out and bought WE9 last night. It really does look like the better game; it's much more involved. The only downside I can see right now is that I wanted to be able to use the lower English club teams, and FIFA did have all three divisions of The Football League. Even lower would be awesome too. I am just hoping that there is a custom made file by someone that has all/many lower teams made for import into the WE9 game. (Like maybe replacing some other countries club league). Playing all the English leagues is one of the big draws for me. I think it would be more interesting for me than even most of the club teams from elsewhere in Europe, though I think playing the "Master League" with the top top teams would be fun too.

Hey man just wanted to add my two cents,

In all honesty both of the games suck. I believe WE/PES to be the lesser of the two evils though. FIFA is too fake and scripted, while winning eleven is scripted sometimes(try playing the world cup), and the game cheats. I n other words when WE wants to score a goal it will score no matter how good defense you play. This is extremely annoying during the knock out stages of the World cup. Not only that but WE's passing system is crap passes rarely go where you intend them to go even when you use manual passing. WE is still much better than FIFA though. Over all FIFA sucks the most but WE still sucks just not as much, PES 3 was the best.
Konoami needs to step their game up.

Peace

If konami fixes their AI behavior the game will have no equals. :bob: I really hope they will release patches that fix that. Speaking of which are there any user patches that has addressed the problem?

Is there a patch bank for Pes5? where can i find it? :junior:

i may be out on a limb here but i find fifa(with many patches) better than PES, although i find licenses and so on very important.

Interesting post Inter, but I am surprised by this assertion. I'm only playing on 3 stars in WE9 right now so perhaps that's the difference. But I always felt it was FIFA that cheated. Even if you're Milan and the CPU is Boston United, in FIFA Boston is always going to put a goal past you. Sure, you'll probably beat them 8-1 but it's frustrating that clean sheets are nearly impossible to get in FIFA. Even **** players can score unstoppable 30 yard screamers when FIFA decides it wants a goal.

Yes Inter, that's a very inaccurate post. I think you'll find that you just aren't very good at the game. I can play on 6 stars and get clean sheets against Chelsea so the computer obviously doesn't cheat.

No, the CPU does obviously cheat. Quit kidding yourself, even as a avid PES/WE fan that plays on 6 stars also, I wont deny that the CPU cheats its a$$ of in PES5/WE9.
