More on this tomorrow though, I have a lecture in 5 minutes (annoying, why in the evenings :f***: :f***: :f***: )

Lennart Johansson (Swedish)*
Senes Erzik (Turkish)**
Per Ravn Omdal (Norwegian)*
Angel María Villar Llona (Spanish)
Geoffrey Thompson (English)
Drs Mathieu Sprengers (Dutch)
Dr Viacheslav Koloskov (Russian)*
Marios N. Lefkaritis (Cypriot)
Eggert Magnusson (Icelandic)*
Gerhard Mayer-Vorfelder (German)
Dr Joseph Mifsud (Maltese)
Michel Platini (French)
Giangiorgio Spiess (Swiss)**
Henri Roemer (Luxembourger)

* = can't vote in first round
** = can't vote at all

probable voting for 1st round

Scotland/Ireland - Thompson, Llona
Nordic - Sprengers
Russia -
Hungary -
Switzerland/Austria - Mayer-Vorfelder, Platini, Roemer
Croatia/Bosnia -
Greece/Turkey - Lefkaritis, Mifsud

Nordic, Russia, Hungary and Croatia/Bosnia bids eliminated

Scotland/Ireland - Thompson, Llona, Sprengers, Magnusson, Omdal, Johansson
Switzerland/Austria - Mayer-Vorfelder, Platini, Roemer
Greece/Turkey - Lefkaritis, Mifsud, Koloskov

Although Scotland/Ireland have only half of the vote Johansson by virtue of being President would mean Scotland/Ireland would win the bidding process.

It will almost certainly come down to the nationalities of the voters as there is little to choose between the 7 bids

This is of course how the first stage of the selection process is decided. It could be decided by some panel who'll decide the best 3, which could be any of the 7 but I suspect Scotland/Ireland will almost certainly feature in the final shortlist. UEFA are due to decide how the first stage will be announced on November 8th.

I think that the Nordic bid has a good chance to win... The Austrian-Swiss bid has run into trouble :

and so too has the Scotland-Ireland bid :

I was right, the executive committee will decide both the first and final rounds of voting

the 8 eligible members (Magnusson btw is illegible coz Iceland are playing a role in the Nordic bid), will come up with a shortlist of 3.

Then those 8, plus the members connected to the rejected bids, will vote to decide the winning bid. In the result of no bid gaining absolute majority the bid with the least votes will be KO'd and another round of voting with any freed up members included will decide the winning bid.

i hope not, 4 countries holding a tournament at once is a joke, we might as well have no hosts and play European Championship across Europe. Maybe 2 countries but not 4.

Well... I sure hope IRELAND-SCOTLAND do win!! Though, like jari said there are some problems...

4 countries Hosting the games... isn't that too much?? and don't forget that Sweden hosted the Euro in 1992...

Bosnia and Crotia can't afford such a champioship, can they?? Aren't their economies in bad condition??

Greece-Turkey... GET REAL!! thehole thing is a stupid political game... I don't think they got a chance (especially after the Panathinaikos-Fener games... 5-2)!! Besides I don't think Greeks want to co-host the Championship with Turkey... What I can't understand is why Greece ain't bidding alone, I mean, after the Olympic Games they will have many state of the art Stadia... (isn't turkish economy ruinned??)

I think the Swiss-Austian bid has more chances...

Russia and Hungary... not quiet yet... in a few years maybe they can manage it!!

When will we know the WINNER???

Vet and others, there is no problem with good stadiums in Turkey. They already have the brand new olympic stadium (82.000 Capacity)

and the Fenerbahce stadium (60.000 capacity) will have been completely rebuilt by 2003

A new 40.000 capacity stadium will be build in Antalya and the Izmir Atatürk stadium will be renovated. (51.750 capcity after renovation)

Greece will have lots of new stadiums by 2004 because of the olympics, so the only reason why Turkey/Greece isnt the favorites is because of the bad relasionship between the two countries.

I didn't say that Turkey doesn't have stadium. I saied that their economy is in very poor shape... the Turkish people suffer from state depression and their anual "per capita" income is like the lowest in the northern hemisphere... so why do they want the Euro for? Shouldn't they do something for their people first?

But like the roman used to say... "the people only need bread and spectation" and football is a great one, isn't it?

We can renovate a couple of our stadia too... For example the National Stadium of Ireland (Croke park) which is actually a Rugby stadium...

But I still think we ain't getting the tournament...

Yeah I have to agree but they have some lovely stadiums in Turkey. The Olympic Stadium in Turkey looks great with the new futuristic roof (one of the coolest stadiums) but it looks like the building was unfinished as the pillars are just plain concrete!?

I also think that the Scot/Ireland & AUS/SWI bids have a good chance but so does the Nordic bid which is very well arranged.

I think rather when it comes to stadiums nordic have a disadvantage, even if denmarks (parken?) is a great looking stadium. But i cant come up with any else.

In sweden there is not one single decent stadium.

ANyway i hate the idea of hosting a tournament wich your countrey wont even in. Even if it is possible for 2 nodric countries to qualify....

Who do i think should win out of those biddings??? NONE OF THEM!!! All the biddings are not taken seriously because there is not one bid that is really strong, and for others to look up to that bid and try to catch up. For example, if there was England or Italy bidding to host Euro2008
and then u got some weaker bidding countries, then those other participants that dont got big chance like England or Italy would get pumped up and get serious. But u cant get serious with the most effective bid being lets say umm NORDIC BID, what a stupid idea, and dont get me wrong, i just think bids for EURO2008 are ridiculous. I am Bosnian and i do support my country in everything and especially soccer, but their bid with Croatia will not work, just like other bids as well. If Hungary only had better stadiums, they would have my vote, so think about it...

Here's my opinions on the bids:

Scotland + Ireland
The Political Wrangling between the two nations, will most propbaly be the downfall of that bid. Another thing, could the Garda avoid another Dublin 95 (for those of you who don't know what I mean by that, so-called England fans went on the rampage for three consecutive nights in the build-up to the ill-fated match against the Republic). The Ulster question would have to been resolved by then.

Russia
The violence and the Racism which exists in the game there could be the major problem there.

Nordic
Four countries? You must be joking!

Hungary
Can you see them having six 30,000 stadias and two 50,000+ stadias done by then?

Switzerland + Austria
I don't think the racism could be as a problem there than people think it could be, also the size of stadia could be a problem. However they would have massive political support.

Bosnia + Croatia
Infrastructure - Not good
Racism - See Hajduk Split Vs Fulham
Stadia - Apart from the Maksimir and the Poijud, not good.
Fans + Atmosphere - Awesome!

Greece + Turkey
Seeing those pictures of the stadia in Istanbul, they are as good as any in the world. However, the Cyprus question would have to be resolved pretty quickly, Earthquakes, particularly in SW Turkey could be a problem as is the Proximity of Iraq.

CONCLUSION
On paper, the Celtic bid is politically the safer of the bids, however for sheer passion, you can't get any better than the Greek and Turkish bid!

Cyprus is almost resolved and probably will be by 2008, even if it isnt how does that effect the bid when the two countries are trying to make some friendship?
The Iraq deal includes every country thats bidding from European Union anyway so that goes for all of us.
As for eathquakes that happens once in 100 years and shouldt be considered.
IN CONCLUSION:
The Greece and Turkey bid is the second strongest after the Nordic even though Nordic i dont like due to all the countries in there.

I agree in my opinion the Nordic bid is the strongest at the moment & only 2 Nordic teams will be allowed to play in Euro 2008 if I remember correct. Finland, Sweden, Denmark & Norway will all play matches against each other & the two best will go through to the tournament.

I don't think Switzerland/Austria will win because Germany is hosting the World Cup in '06.

The Nordic countries are fairly close & the countries have very strong ties. Having the matches in four countries won't be a problem & Nordic events are always well arranged.
