I loved Colonel Kilgore in Apocalypse Now - great character. Lt. Stansfield in Leon I really liked too, and Rufus T. Firefly in Duck Soup. The three protagonists in Easy Rider really appeal to me aswell. Other really cool characters include Dr. Strangelove (Dr. Strangelove), Captain Bligh (Mutiny on the Bounty), Graccus (Spartacus), Popeye Doyle (French Connection) and loads more I've probably forgotten.

In TV, probably Hawkeye in M*A*S*H and Lord Flasheart in Blackadder are my favourites. I also really like Garth Marengi in Garth Marengi's Dark Place, and also, if you include radio, Hercules Grynpype-Flynn in The Goon Show.

George Costanza in Seinfeld - I read an article the other day that even said he's the best character ever in a TV show. I mean I like Kramer very much as well but it's just a more physical type of humour which consists mainly of him doing stupid things. Now George is always doing legendary stuff like going to see your mom at the hospital at a certain hour just because the patient next to her is a hot woman having a bath.

In a Movie definitely Vincent Vega and Jules Winnfield from Pulp Fiction. especially Jules is just (H):mrpimp:

Willy Wonka (The Great Gene Wilder) from Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory: "The anticipatiion is terrible. I hope it lasts!"

Verbal Kint (The Great Kevin Spacey) from The Usual Suspects: "How do you shoot the devil in the back? What if you miss?"

Tommy De Vito (Joe Pesci) from GoodFellas: "But, I'm funny how? Funny like a clown? I amuse you? I make you laugh? I'm here to ****in' amuse you?"

The Shawshank Remdemption:
Red (Morgan Freeman): "Makin' yourself some friends, Andy."
Andy Dufresne (Tim Robbins): "I wouldn't say "friends". I'm a convicted murderer who provides sound financial planning."

Fargo:
Marge: "Oh, I just think I'm gonna barf... Well, that passed. Now I'm hungry again. "

Some good ones there (Y) I only found out recently that Frances McDormarand got an oscar for that part in Fargo - good for her. Buscemi and Macy were equally superb in that film too.

Yea she did win that one, I found that she is married to one of the Coen brothers, I had no idea that the brothers were as old as they are, I thought they were somewhere around the age of the Southpark creators.

Yeah I picture them that way too, but they've been making films for a long time now so maybe they were when they started? I think Blood Simple was the first major Coen Brothers film and that came out in the early eighties, more than 20 years ago.
