Even though the thread asks for the best rapper, I'll say Kanye West. Not only is he the best producer out there, but he's also a good rapper. His College Dropout album is my all-time favourite rap album, and it just has so many good tracks which I never get tired of (Through the Wire, Family Business, Never Let Me Down for example).

DMX is also a favourite.

Like these guys were saying before me, Doom isn't an easy first listen... I'm willing to bet most people don't like his stuff when initially exposed to it, it takes a bit of time. You really have to stop and really take in his words to apprieciate the genius behind it. Sometimes his verses are so abstract that you have to listen to them a few times to figure out what he's saying.

Definatly agree with Shinji. Took me about 2 weeks to warm up to Doom, love his stuff now.

Snoop is my favorite rapper, I know hes become one of the biggest commercial sell outs but I still love his older stuff like Doggystyle & Tha Doggfather

I think my fave rapper(s) is still Senim Silla & One Be Lo, simply because Binary Star is something I still listen to on almost a daily basis, it's become part of my lifestyle... especially Senim Silla, who I've actually chatted with on MSN messenger a couple times. Really down to earth guy.

I'll have to wait until Silla comes out with something, but I pretty much like all the One Be Lo verses on the Binary Star album better than most of the Silla ones. But I don't think that's necessarily dissing Senim Silla, since One Be Lo is amazing.

yea, one be lo is great. i also found out about him through one of your post on the 'rap thread'(shinji). my favorite rappers are immortal technique and dmx, to answer the question. immortal technique because he raps about some real stuff, and dmx because i've been listening to 'flesh of my flesh, blood of my blood' and 'it's dark and hell is hot' ever since they came out. for some reason, they never get old for me.

found a good song feat. MF

Talib Kweli feat. MF Doom - Fly That Knot

DRE, RZA, Premier, Pete Rock, Timbaland, Neptunes, 9th Wonder....?

God, most of you have tunnel vision when it comes to rap.

I think we should merge this with the rap thread?

I don't think there's too much to choose between the two IMO. I think Senim's flow on 'slang blade' is mind-blowing though, never heard anything quite like it...

Senim Silla's new solo album is in the making, I asked him about it at his forum and he says the release date is still up in the air. He did mention he might post some sneak preview stuff from it in the next month or so... can't wait (Y)

Yeah, OK, I agree with Dr. Dre and RZA, but IMO Kanye is better than all of them. Almost every song he produces becomes a hit (even before he was famous and commercial).

Wow, Kanye is good. I admit it.

But better than Dre? :nape:

Someone needs to go listen to Chronic 2001. :jap:

Meh.... maybe its that Dre's last album was 6 or 7 years ago and in that time anyone and everyone has copied his production to a t. Detox should change my mind again tho :jambo:

I think RZA is so boring, even Wu beat sounds more or less the same to me. I also think Eazy-E was the WORST rapper of all time, and by that I mean I'd rather have my rhymes ghost written by MC Hammer than by Eazy-E.

Help?

Detox better be good, because he has been delaying it for 3 years now.

Kanye West i think is really good, but imo John Legend is a bit better.

Can't say I agree. IMO, almost every single Wu-Tang Clan beat (at least up until about year 2000) was very good. He just has a special sort of sound, which makes his beats unique. But the newer stuff that RZA produces isn't very good.

But tracks like "It's Yourz", "Bells of War", "Heaven & Hell" etc. has some of that Wu-Tang in it.

I can't agree with you on Eazy-E either, but this is what makes music great. If everybody would like and dislike exactly the same, what a boring world we'd live in.

John Legend isn't exactly hip-hop, is it?
