There is a reason why no matter how much our PES/WE fans bitch about how their game is better than Fifa. Fifa still continues to lead sales charts across the globe even in europe. Statistically even if not by much the people have spoken(FIFA might not be a better game, but a much more prefered game). Makers of Fifa know exactly what the average gamer craves in a Football sim. That is real player likeness( i mean c'mon i am playing soccer with Raul), attention to detail, the sound is just incredible just like as if i am in an actual Football game. PES/WE series have the best gameplay ever in a football sim, but i believe no matter how good the gameplay is they will continue to lag behind Fifa in terms of consumer sales unless they come up with something new every year like Fifa's new career mode. I mean sure i can do real soccer moves on the screen but i also play Div 1 football for my college so the point being? I mean who would not love a game in which you can play as a manager/player. Who would not buy a game that includes a suituation like when your team sucks, the fans actually stop coming to games. I mean that is new that keeps me intrested in Fifa. Gameplay is all PES/WE has. Fifa has everything else, and guess what FIFA's gameplay is catching up to Pes/WE. Also konami better watch out and find a way to outbid Fifa's sole rights to real club and player names. That's just my opinion.

1. FIFA sells more but up until now PES was on PS2 only, and even with this was top of the ALL FORMAT charts until FIFA came out. So if PES was on the same amount of systems the evidence suggests that it would outsell FIFA by some margin.

2. FIFA's career mode is a nice idea, but it has nowhere near the depth of PES's Master League, which offers an extremely detailed management element, as well as a massive challenge. Fans do not come to games in Master League if you are playing badly either, so that advantage doesn't exist. Plus, the transfer system and the qualification for cups, plus the fact that it never ends make Master League quite clearly a better and deeper one player game than career mode.

3. Even if this wasn't the case, how can you say gameplay is all PES has, as if that's not by far and away the most important thing in a game?

Well I don´t care it sells more (which it does not for consoles as PS2), I´m happy about PES and I could care less. Plus. And if selling more meant something should we started buying stuff based on that? Hell I guess we should all be listening to Britney Spears!

I could care less about FIFA´s +350 teams specially when all of them play the same tactics and have out of date rosters and stats, at least the few teams you have in PES3 play different, some teams I play better with because I adapt better to their strategy,

Also I think its bull saying EA knows what the avarege consumer wants, if you don´t know PES/WE outsells FIFA in the PS2 console. The most popular console out there!

I would not mind having more teams and real names, but I rather play PES than FIFA simply as ypu put it because of better gameplay, the few teams in PES3/WE7 actually play different and close to the stratagy of the real teams. Plus I can always patch the game with some of wedoits patches, geting real names, flags and jerseys.

Because of that I don´t get the things you wrote, it seems more like a justification on why you bought FIFA. Trying to make us belieave you enjoy a game just because it has 350+ teams done poorly and with worse gameplay as you stated!

Sales, does that make it a better game to play? .................no it dont. Fifa is an over hyped game that always dissapoints to meet its target of the best football game, pes3 without question is the best around (until pes4 atleast). Fifa needs to think about the gameplay side rather than graphics, pes got it right by getting the gameplay had still has decent graphics, the player animations are class. So fifa monkeys, sell your copy for 50p (thats all its worth) to ur local dealers and buy pes.

If its exciting new features like OTB(do it yourself AI) and career mode(5years at one club=career?, not to mention the other bugs you gotta spit out to enjoy it) you're after then FIFA's the game for you, an average game for average gamers.

Which consumers are we talking about here? Japan is Konami's primary focus and the gamers there obviously think along the same lines as us, Realistic Gameplay = the best game. FIFA with all its gloss gets looked over due to its shallow gameplay. Gamers in Europe are now catching on to this aswell due to mag reviews and friends bitching(or word of mouth advertising, you choose) about how much better PES recreates football.

Doesn't matter if you're playing with Raul in Real's kit, with fifa's gampleay it all feels hollow and contrived.

I am Chinese from Hong Kong but now studying in USA. I am sure that in Hong Kong or Japan, Winning Eleven outsells FIFA a lot every year. And it is even the top seller when it is new.

And what does "average gamers" mean? If FIFA does make games for average gamers, then it may be a little bit insulting that saying average gamers are gamers who are kids and don't know football.............

it's all good people . You don't have to hate just because i don't say what you want to hear. I have played every fifa since 1993, so i am just so loyal to it. But hey i have both games anyways PES3/Fifa2004. And they both rock......

We have a all been FIFA players at a point..but come on its the third year PES has existed... and they have had boosting sales compared to FIFA where the sales are decreasing...we will see in 2 years cause people and many of them are realising that PES is the future and FIFA the past...EA is outmatched and have been sleeping since 1998...muaha

FIFA gameplay is catching up???????? FIFA has existed since 1996 o0r more and PES since 2001. How come thwey are behind with gameplay with 5 more years. Ill be 120 when FIFA has decent fairplay...lol...muaha

FIFA exists since FIFA INTERNATIONAL, that game was awesome for its time. It was released on 1993 and had an isometric camera and was available for PC/GENESIS


PES is the american version of Winning Eleven Series, but Konami had a number of football games before the PES/WE franchise. They started in 1992 with a game for the NES called Konami Hyper Socce, then they maid an awesome game for SNES called SUPER 11 in Japan, later to be called ISSS in the US (International SUper Star Soccer) Then in 1996 came out a new franchise called WINNING ELEVEN that was totally 3d for the playstation1

So Konami has been making awesome football games since the early 90´s and always making one game better then the other, while FIFA had a few good games in the past 10 years FIFA INTERNTIONAL, FIFA98, RTWC the rest were pretty much a bad copy of the great FIFA98

The thing is Konami was never afraid of changing game negine and making a new game from groung up now and then, while EA was always very conservative and never really ook chances like Konami

Yeah, since EA shifted their FIFA games production to Canada its just gone stale(FIFA 99 was the first canadain FIFA game, need I say more)...I think people in EA do their time on the FIFA team before moving on to something they prefer.
Why they shifted development out of the UK is beyond me, for quality reasons at least, prolly cheaper to make in Canada.

FIFA sells more because it's marketed better by EA, simple as that. I see TV and newspaper adverts for FIFA 2004 almost every day. Here in Liverpool, we've had Wayne Rooney signing copies of it in our local HMV. This kind of thing would NEVER happen with PES, most casual gamers can't see beyond the licences and marketing glitz.
