Will Zidane consider playing in the MLS?

Make America Great Again
On October 2, 1974 Pele retired from football in Brazil and came over to play in the NASL for the New York Cosmos and for about three seasons soccer was actually a big deal in America. He attracted players along with him like Franz Beckenbauer at the age of 31 when he was still considered to be at his best.

So, my question is do you think Zidane is considering a move over to America to play in the MLS, possibly for the New York Red Bulls. He would obviously be a huge draw in America and he could raise the public's interest in soccer in America for a few years. While he wouldn't be making nearly as much money as he did in Europe, he would clearly be the highest paid player in the league, and if the MLS did become a big thing he would have some lucrative endorsements.

Do you think it's possible? Do you think it's likely?

If he wants to make more money sure why not. But he said he is officially done playing football after the world cup.

I don't think he will because he'd be stuck with New York and they're awful.

By the way, Shifty is gonna kill you for saying the MLS.

It'd be kind of fun to see him dominate the MLS, but I think he wants a break after 15 years of football.

It'd be kind of cool.

I hope people wouldn't recognize him for his head-butt, instead how he is the best player since Maradona.

it would not be possible for Zidane to play in the MLS. he still has one more year left on his Madrid contract and in order for him to play in the MLS he would have to play one more year for Madrid or MLS would have to pay a very large sum of money(millions of dollars) to buy out his contract. I don't see either happening, so no he will not be playing in the MLS.

it would be great if he did. Same goes for other superstars at the final stages in their careers, would be great for attracting crowds.

i don't think he will play in a league, where people don't really pay attention to football and don't know what an offside run is.

doubt it. what can a league like that offer zidane? I choose to believe he is financially secured for the next 900 years.

When Zidane hit that header in ET that Buffon saved, I turned to my friend next to me and said "if he made that, I would have taken back everything bad I've ever said about Zidane" and then he cost his team the World Cup Final because he's a dumbass dirty cheating piece of garbage, and he reinforced everything a hundred times over.

MLS doesnt need a dumbass dirty cheating piece of garbage as a player, do they?

Soccer in America needs everything it can get.

You (foreign) guys knock the MLS, but Pele, Beckenbauer, Cruyff, and many other stars past their prime played in America in the 1970s when the public was much more ignorant about the game and there was much less infrastructure for a real soccer league.

Zidane's contract with Real Madrid is a non-issue obviously, that can be got around in an instant.

I'm not knocking the MLS. I found it weird that the same person who spoke about Zidane that way now thinks he would be good for the sport in America.

Well I have read before that Zidane said he wants to retire while he is still on top ( whlie at RM and France ) so I doubt that he go to the MLS. If he was still going to play I would bet he would play in France for OM.

I'm not sure, but I think a few years ago Zidane said he wanted to end his career at River Plate in Argentina because that's where his idol Enzo Francescoli played

I always thought Pele went to the USA to get loads of money, much more than he'd ever get in the Brazilian league.

Zidane in MLS?

He's achived everything there is to achive in football. MLS or French 4 division, I don't see why he would still want to play. He wanted to he could still continue in a top European club. They would all be on their knees to sign him.

Same goes for every other player.

Pele was a money whore, so was Batigol signing with a Katar club.

what the hell are you talking about? Can you blame a player like Pele for trying to earn money while both living a stars life in America and advancing the sport? Batigol is a money whore because he wants to make himself a nice nest egg playing in Arabia? I wonder if Del Piero does the same one day how you will feel about it.

And why is he not a money whore for trying to be a bench player in a top European club? Why would he be? As youve said, hes achieved everything he can. Isnt that money whoredom even worse?

Rant over

As for Zidane, you never know. Djorkaeff could sell him on coming over, but I see him taking a good year or two off first, especially after the tragedy of the final act on sunday. I think after this, he wants to become an ambassador for the game as he rightly deserves to be. People were just so shocked that someone who has embodied the best parts of the game would come to represent part of its worst element, that he probably feels the need to redeem himself in the eyes of the public. He should have a sitdown with Maradonna ;)

Zidane might condsider it, but will he actually do it? I have HUGE doubts.

I could be wrong but I think it was either 4 million a year/3 years or 4 million total over 3 years. He was the highest paid athlete at the time I think. But anyway NY Redbulls could pay Zidane him alot. I think they offered Ronaldo a huge contract but he turned it down.
