WingmanLogitech's Problem:There is solution!:FirestormThrustmaster fix 4 analog stick

Mace II

Youth Team
This has probably been bought up before but for all those who missed it and didnt notice it. NORMALLY, YOU CANNOT RUN IN THE GAME with the WINGMAN cordless, pressing button Z does the freestyle, NOT the run.

This is for the Logitech Wingman Rumble Cordless [this problem may occur for other Wingman controllers]. Downloading the latest driver (version 4.2 , or the Fifa2003 preset, doesnt fix this). The problem is with FIFA2003 assigning buttons.

You cannot run pressing the right shoulder button, nor can you RUN pressing the "z" button (as I have said above). The thing is that EA assigned both the skill move button (shift on the keyboard) and the sprint button to the same button, the "z" button, in the game. This is why holding down z, the player runs a little bit then stops. He is actually doing a skill move, not running.

The fix is simple, in the settings menu in the game, you must assign a different button other than "z" for the Sprint command. N.B. Mapping button 6 to another button in the WingmanProfiler would change nothing, becuase in the game, button 6 (the z button) has been assigned to both sprint and shift, therefore you must make the game distinguish between the two. And since the game doesnt let you change the button assignment for skill moves in the settings menu, but allows you to change it for sprint, this is the only way you can fix the problem. Map the z button to R, or any other button you wish.

NOw for the Thrustmaster devices, the fix was discovered by in the this post. Read it carefully. Right analog stick fix!
NOw if you have the latest thrustmaster drivers (if not go to http://europe.thrustmaster.com/support/supportf.php?pa=drv&id_prd=T31&cy=UK&ft=3 and download them), you will still have to do this fix, and the registry may look slightly different from the type set that Cog showed, don't worry, you still have to follow the same steps he listed only that in the same registry location you might see other things.

Now just a couple of additions to the other post. as instructed you must add what is written there. In some cases, depending on what driver you have installed, you will already find an Axes Key in the [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro
l\MediaProperties\PrivateProperties\Joystick\OEM\V
ID_044F&PID_B303 location he wrote there], if you click on it you may see and Axes key already there, and under it additional keys 0, 1 and possibly more numbers, however you still have to add key 4 and 5, and enter the Binary values you will call Attributes in each case. just as he gives in the post [00 00 00 00 01 00 35 00 and the other one]

I noticed that the PID number may differ from B303 as was in my case, some of you may have different PID numbers, but the ID number you are loooking under is ID_044F not ID_045. If you have Windows XP, like I do, it maybe difficult to find out which from the Control Panel/Systems/Device Manager, what your thrustmaster's PID number is. NO worries, if you examine the registers under ID_044F, look for the ones that are closest to ID_044F&PID_B303 (in my case it was ID_044F&PID_B304 and B3AI) but if you examine the key closely, you would see that somewhere in the key, is the word thrustmaster, then you will know for sure it is the right PID under ID_044F to alter. The PID for your device will differ if like me, you have more than one game controlling device and if you also have more than one thrustmaster. If you have more than one thrustmaster, you must do the same for the other ID_044F&PID_XXX, whichever it is for your second thrustmaster and add the key 4 and 5 under the Axes key just like you did for the first.

Goodluck I hope it works for you if you have either controllers, mine now works perfectly fine. [ps I exchange my thrustmater cordless for a wingman cordless because i noticed the left analog stick movement jitters and stutters, this problem does not exist for the Dual Analog 2, and you will notice this on the cordless one in the Properties window in the Game Controllers section of the Control Panel in windowsXP. moving the LEFT analog stick around, the cross hair jitters before it stabilises. this means every time you move it to move somethings, the conrtol plays around a little before it stops in your desired direction,i.e. you dont always have control, the effect it has in the game is annoying. I won't have noticed it if I did not have a WIRED thrustmaster, the Dual Analog Power2 [which is BRILLIANT by the way and doesnt give this problem at all when using the left analog stick], controlling the motion of the players is more difficult as they dont respond to direction changes that well, and worse, when taking the free kick it is almost imossible to get the targeting cursor to stay in one place after you moved it, if you release the left anaolog stick it drifts a little before it stops. NOw this SHOULD NOT happen, and it is a problem with the Thrustmaster Firestorm Cordless gamepad, i am not sure if it is purely a driver problem in conjunction with WindowsXP (i suspect it might be, and it might be fixed in a more recent driver - I dont know becuase i had returned the gamepad by the time i discovered the location of the latest Thrustmaster drivers). I bought the Logitech Wingman Cordless, which has a better response time and maps quite well, but is a bit bulky, so you choose. Whatever the problems you encounter, I am sure there is a fix , if not, someone always find out.

As I have all three gamepads, here is how I rate them.

Microsoft Sidewinder Original:
6/10

Advs - No issues will you have with this one, everything will work fine.
Dadvs - The D-pad is an awful design, and the buttons are a bit few, limiting you in some games.

Thrustmaster Firestrom Dual Power2 (analog)
9/10

Advs -
1. Simply the best design, its shape is brilliant, it holds easily 2. the buttons are in extremely easy accessible poistions, you'd be hard pressed to beat someone holding this.
3. It works reliable for most things.
4. Buttons galore, even pressing the analog sticks is an extra button and the two tucked under like the N64 trigger button is unbeatable - don't know why more dont copy them here

Dadvs -
1. it has that FIFA problem (this is EA and Microsoft, and a little bit of THrusmaster's fault. though, not thrustmasters fault.
2. The D-pad design is poor [hate usin it - but most controllers have the same design.]
3. It isn't cordless (lol this is the main reason why I haven't given it 10/10)

Thrusmaster Firestorm Wireless
7/10

Advs.
1.as the other thrustmaster its design and shape is brilliant.
2. It is cordless
3. Buttons galore, even pressing the analog sticks is an extra button and the two tucked under like the N64 trigger button is unbeatable - don't know why more dont copy them here

Dadvs:
1. Fifa2k3 problem
2. THe left analog stick doesn't respond very well, and jerks when you using it to move characters. it stutters before it settles in the position you've moved it, this is quite annoying. This will happen in all games, and callibrating it will do you no good. However with some games and largely for FIFA as well, you can live with this minor difficulty which is why I HAVEN'T failed it.
3. The D-pad design is poor, but it moves well.
4. Because of the compact design, the battery compartment is in between the two tucked under buttons (9 and 10(, if you have large fingers, it will be a problem as you will bump against the cover and that may hurt.

Logitech Wingman RumbleCordless
Rating 9/10

Advs.
1. Excellent response, for gamepad, its response is sweet, no chance of the game getting ahead of you with this one (and it iss cordless which shows its superior engineering. Resonse of analog sticks is good.

2. Support is excellent, website is easy to get to (from the profiler, and easy to find stuff in it. It is very well monitored and regularly updated.
3 Very durable, it is sturdy conserves power well.
4 D-Pad is a good design and responds very well and off course, it is Cordless.

DAdvs.
1. It is bulky, and your hands may hurt holding it after a while. But if you have big hands, you wont find this a problem. except thatif your fingers a pic, you will trip over buttons A,B,C X,Y Z,. R1 and L1 are fine, but because its that bulky you may be slowed down when tring to reach R2, and L2 unless your hands a big.

2. The design/ shape isn't that good compared to thrusmaster, although some may argue its nice compared to other gamepads.
3. requires too many batteries [4 AA] altho it lasts a long time

The difference between this and the Firestorm is the cordless feature, if you like cordless a lot, then get this controlloer over the Dual analog 2
