He's a decent defender, but not Real Madrid standard I wouldnt have thought, though I woudnt have said Owen was Real Madrid standard either.

Damn right......

hes way better than Real Madrid's usual defensive standard, im really suprised Pavon isnt given more of a chance, i remember how he handled reyes, now that is real madrid defensive standard for u.

I guess Galactipunks are tired of getting dumped on their ass' on the counter attack.

Im sure an injured defender will do real the world of good, in fact i wouldnt be suprised if they signed stepanovs in view of his excellent euro 2004 to build up a strong central defensive partnership for their assault on the champions league

I also hear the latvian market is hard to break, another reason to sign stepanovs

Heh. (H) Madrid would do well to sign Igors.

Woodgate, the boy of glass... the best English defender after Campbell when he's not injured... pity he's injured for a minimum of 30 games per season.

IT'S OFFICIAL PENDING A MEDICAL!

Sir Bobby Robson was just on SkySports and admitted Real Madrid have made a bid of £13m that has been accepted by the NUFC board . Sir Bobby said he doesn't want him to go but the only thing stopping him is failing in a medical...

...and the medical will take place this weekend.

Great signing by Madrid, even though I don't want any more fvcking Englishmen. Woodgate is pure class, and at 24, if he can stay healthy, he'll form a tremendous partnership with Walter Samuel who's only 26.

Hala Madrid.

:kader:

I'd agree in saying he's the second best English defender behind big SOL ... a great player with bags of natural talent and could be a legend at NUFC.
Problem is ... he's played 28 league games out of a possible 60ish for us. And he's currently just on the boundry of becomming a liability for the club. This is why i didn't really believe the stories at first. Why would Real M. want a central defender that just seems to get injured all the time?

Having said this, i'd still want him to stay as we need class players at the club, and would be gutted to see him leave.

well he was due back last week ....

but yet another setback has sidelined him for another 3 weeks

i'd be interested to see what the results of a medical at Real would say.

he is a good defender when he fully fit. madrid now is complete is they sign woodgate, helguera will push to become defensive midfield. but one question is "where owen gonna play"? i just assume the line-up could like this

--------------- raul ------ ronaldo
zidane ------------------------------------ figo
------------ helguera --- beckham
carlos ---- woodgate --- samuel --- salgado

Sir Bobby Robson said that he sees absolutely no way that Jonathan Woodgate would fail the medical, and his thigh has nearly completely re-covered.

Camacho has already said that Owen can't expect first team football. with Morientes back he will have alot of bench time. but Camacho also said that he will rest the stars more and rotate the forwards alot.
