World Cup 2006 Challenge

KLINSMANN

Reserve Team
I started managing Bayern Munich in 2001 and won four Champions League titles, 4 Bundesliga titles, 2 DFB-Pokal titles, 5 League Cup titles, 4 Intercontinental Cup Trophies. Germany was looking for a new manager, because of their poor showing at EURO 2004 and friendlies after that. I applied in December and got the job in February. The World Cup was just a few teams away and I resigned from Bayern. I wanted to fully focus on winning the 2006 FIFA World Cup with Germany.

I had to study every players' skill and watch how they played throughout the rest of the season. I finally finalized my squad just before the Cup. I was placed in Group G with the following teams: Iran, Denmark, Colombia

GERMANY VS. IRAN
We kicked off the game. In the 1st minute, Iran's goalie had to pick out the ball from the back of his net. Michael Ballack had scored a beautiful goal from 32 meters. 1-0 for Germany. In the 4th minute, Iran had a huge chance to tie it up after Metzelder lost the ball in midfield and Iran had a breakaway. Oliver Kahn (still playing :mambo: ) managed to turn it away for a corner, the first corner of the game. Iran's corner brought in nothing. In the 15th minute, Michael Ballack did a give-and go with Sebastian Deisler. The ball came back to Ballack. His pass found Klose and his shot found..... the outside of the net. Nothing happened until the 37th. It was Deisler's corner kick which met the head of Miroslav Klose. The powerful header went just over the bar. It would stay 1-0 at halftime.

Second half started with my team pushing forward, not being scared of anything. Oliver Neuville took a shot, but it landed in the 15th row, where it hit a fan in the head. :D Iran came forward two minutes after that and took a shot. It was deflected and went in. It would be 1-1. For twenty minutes, there was not one real chance. Ballack crossed the ball into the middle. Kose fell and the referee gave a penalty. Lars Ricken made no mistake and sent the goalie the wrong way. The score would now be 2-1 for Germany. Iran had one more attempt to equalize and it was a good one. It was a breakaway with lots of time to take, but the striker took his shot quickly and missed. Instead, the following Goal kick resulted in a German goal. Kahn kicked the ball forward. Ricken flicked it on with his head. Klose crossed into the middle and found Neuville. His onetimer volley went in the top corner. 3-1 for Germany! They could not be caught anymore.

The other match ended:

Denmark 4-2 Colombia

Germany vs. Denmark

This would be a bery big match... a huge match for my team. Denmark had beatedn Colombia earlier in the tournament by 4 goals to 2. The match started off boring. There was no chance until the 17th minute. That's when Michael Ballack made a run, almost like Maradona in 1986. The only thing that was different here, was that he missed the goal... and that completely! His shot probably went over the stadium and hit some car on the highway. :D Two minutes later, Denmark also had a chance. It was a very good one. The shot which was taken by the striker from 16 meters, bounced back from the crossbar. Oliver Kahn didn't even see it. It was eventually cleared out by the defence. Ten minutes later, Denmark had the best chance of the game yet. A cross found Ebbe Sand all open. He had an open header from 3 meters. The closest defender to him was miles away. The header bounced at the ground once, but Oliver Kahn saved it. The resulting corner, brought in another good chance. Ebbe Sand was tripped in the box and got the penalty. He took it himself. He ran up... shoots.... but Kahn makes the save. Denmark should have been up 1-0 by now with three 100% chances. Denmark tried to score one more time before the half, but the shot from 7 meters went flat and was saved by Kahn. The half time score was 0-0, all thanks to Kahn. I made one change, which was DEISLER OUT & ZICKLER IN. Deisler really lacked speed and Zickler is the fastest soccer player in Germany. , so I believed that I made a good change.

The second half was underway as the referee blew the whistle. 65th minute is when the first real chance of the half happened. Lars Ricken hammered a shot towards goal from 25 meters. The ball, just as before with Denmkar, hit the crossbar. Neuville hit the rebound, but it was brilliantly saved by the Danish goalie. In the 89th minute Alexander Zickler got by three players on the right wing and crossed in a beautiful ball. Klose was in the air first and got a powerful header towards goal. The goalie had no chance. It was 1-0 for Germany. I was really happy about that goal, because I wanted to at least keep a draw against Denmark but now I could even get a win. But if I wanted to win the World Cup, and this kind of performance would win it for me. Denmkar kicked off after the goal. Ebbe Sand took control of the ball and crossed it in. The resulting header gave Kahn no chance to make it 1-1. I could not believe it. A few seconds after my goal, they tied it up! It would stay 1-1 for full time. I had the win! But I gave it up.

The other match ended:

Iran 2-1 Colombia

THE STANDINGS

1) Denmark (4 pts.)
