ZURICH, Switzerland (AP) - The 2010 World Cup will take place in South Africa as planned, FIFA President Sepp Blatter said Tuesday, denying reports that the tournament might be moved elsewhere.

"Media reports that the 2010 World Cup will be held in a different country are completely groundless. The 2010 FIFA World Cup will take place in South Africa," Blatter said in a statement.
Some reports have suggested FIFA might look for an alternative host because of concerns over transportation problems and delays in stadium construction in South Africa.

Yes there is a large following here but the focus is on hosting the Winter Olympics in 2010..it would be very hard (maybe even impossible) to squeeze in a bigger event.

yes but 95% of them are imigrants, the winter olympics are much bigger to canadians because of hockey, only a million people watched the finals from canada this year, would never happen not enough support.

If you want me to add another point just to throw further **** on you, it pulled the USL off it's deathbed. Now many USL clubs are in the black, and have their own stadiums that aren't closed due to being too **** like that hellhole in Athens was.
