I had FAPLS and FAPLS 2001. I'm still playing FAPLS 2001, it's a very good game and the developers are not the same ones of the Fifa 2001. Although the graphics really sux, the gameplay is very good. Almost like Fifa 98/99 with shooting and long pass meters.

EA had the developers of FAPLS 2001 work with Fifa 2001 developers to bring us FIFA 2002. I think the dev. of FAPLS were under the dev. of FIFA 2002 so they had to listen to them. AND, there's no more FAPLS 2002 :( Fifa 2002 became pretty lousy, but the improvement is better than Fifa 2001 over 2000.

Maybe Fifa 2003 is more of FAPLS dev's work. I hope it'll be much better.

In my opinion, the FAPLS development team did a far better job with their Stars games than their big cheese Canadian counterparts did with the likes of FIFA 2000 (lousy) and FIFA 2001 (sh*te)...

I never played the original FAPLS, but I do own FAPLS 2001 and it's a pretty good game, though the graphics aren't very good and the ball physics are a bit over the top (ie. hitting a shot at full power makes it go like a speeding bullet!)... As u said, it is very much like FIFA 99, and indeed it seems to be developed from the FIFA 99 engine (check out the similarities in player models and animations)...

I've seen some of the FAPLS-esque features in FIFA 2002 such as the power gauge for passes and lobs, and some of the skill moves, but the rest of the gameplay was rank.

The absence of FAPLS 2002 ended a great alternative to FIFA, and it is a shame because many of us, myself included, liked it.

As for FIFA 2003, we can only hope :D
