Your "dream patch" to make Fifa 2000 the way you want

If we had the oppertunity to make a "dream patch" Fifa 2000 like that, so that almost every soccergamingfans are satiesfied. What did we like to change, add or remove?
This is my list:

1. Make the game more difficult. The CPU should be a real challenge for everytime you play it.
2. Put more leagues and divisions in the game, just like CM 3
3. Reduce the gamespeed a little
4. The ability to use the same buttons as in Fifa 99. The shimmy's etc.
5. More tackles and fouls by the CPU. And the must respond if you are tackling to much
6. More injuries
7. Defenders should be able to defend the attackers better then the attackers themselfs.( A strange factI noticed in Fifa 2000)
8. Better commentary. If you bring your keeper to the midfield, the commentator will repeately say: "what is he doing out there". And more boring stuff like that
9. The soundeffect of the audience comparing to the earlier versions of Fifa is poor
10. The referee is giving too many penalties
11. The keeper never makes fouls himself. He will never get a card.
12. With any player you can easily beat five defenders like Maradonna did. This is superunrealistic
13.The arrows which appear when you are taking a free kick, goalkick or a corner are irritating and not as easy as they were in Fifa 99

Please reply if you a have list youself or disagree with me. But reading the forum i don't think that there are many people who don't have suggestions or complaints at all.

Here's the dream patch...

EA becomes Konami and puts out a real game...

Everything about FIFA feels wrong. You have to force yourself to pass the ball around just to make it seem semi-realistic. Because if you want to, you can score with one pass to an attacker and that's it --goal. The ball floats around like a ping pong ball with severely warped ball physics in which a cross takes a heat seeker path to the strikers head every time -- bullet header to the top corner. Also, you may notice that when you shoot, it either goes a bit wide and high, or it curls directly to the keeper. And as for the special moves - "360, hurdle" get real. Watch a player like Ginola, he uses body positioning and quick cuts to throw defenders off balance. In fifa the defenders seem to have no problem launching 2 slide tackles in a row with no time to get up and recover. Plus the defensive AI positioning/marking is a total joke. When you play a game like ISS Pro 98, you have to construct a build-up and attack and when you score a goal it is rewarding. Fifa makes you hold yourself back to keep it realistic even though you know you could score 10 goals easily. I could go on forever about what is wrong with this game.

Did you notice the stupid flick headers are back like in old Fifa 97, the cpu will do three consecutive flick headers down to your penalty area. that is so bogus.

Another thing cpu is up by a goal or two and yet keeps on giving away breakaway opportunites so the game can be tied. This never happened in 99, the defense would play back and you never saw stupid break-away goals.

The more I play this game the more i think damn 99 was more realistic, even 98! I dont know what happened to make it go wrong like that.

Beavis, you hit the nail right on the head. That is my ultimate wish also. Konami's footie are more realistic than any Fifa titles. ISS Pro for the Playstation is very realistic. You have to work hard to score which football is like in real life. Fifa2000 feels like playing basketball with the set pieces and like ice hockey with the passing. You can easily score an average of 7 to 8 goals in a game even on World Class. You have to pass the ball like a hockey player with a puck to play in World Class because the speed of the game is so fast. Speed does not equal AI. EA thinks that by increasing the speed of the CPU players is a substitute for better AI for higher levels. Damn it, I am so sick of EA. Just sells the Fifa rights to Konami so the world can see how real footy game should be.

EA SPORTS ARE WORKING FOR USA MARKET ONLY,I MEAN PPL IN USA WOULD FIND FIFA2000 A BRILLIANT GAME B/C THEY DON'T KNOW S**T ABOUT FOOTBALL (SOCCER AS THEY CALL IT),I THINK WE SHOULD FIGHT FOR OUR RIGHTS AS FOOTBALL FANS BY EXPLAINING OUR POINT OF VIEW TO EA SPORTS AND IF THEY CHOOSE TO IGNORE US THEN WE'LL DO THE SAME AND BELIEVE ME IT'LL WORK

Shez,

I think you're a little off when you say "people in the US don't know **** about football." Few people follow the atrocious MLS league here but thousands own satellite dishes and watch the same games you do. There are even several bars in the New York, New Jersey area, which are open and packed early Saturday and Sunday mornings for no other reason than European football. Every weekend I get 4 Italian Serie A matches, as well as UEFA Cup games involving Italian teams during the week. Champion's League matches are shown on ESPN on Wednesdays. On Sunday Fox Sports has a 2 hour show highlighting the English matches played that week. I also get highlights from my BBC channel as well. I'd watch British matches in full if it wasn't a ridiculous $9.99 per game via pay-per view.

So the reality is, being an American and living in New York, I probably watch the same amount of football on television as you do. Or as much as I have available to me, and that's the point. I can also go to several local newstands and buy "Four Four Two," "Total Football," "Football Europe," etc., and I can pick up a new issue of Gazzetta dello Sport every morning for $1.75. Apparently, there must a multitude of others on this side of the Atlantic who do the same and they must be making a considerable profit from US consumers or these things wouldn't be made available to us. To further my point, Gazzetta dello Sport actually has a printing factory in New Jersey. I doubt they'd go through the trouble and expense of setting up a printing factory to produce an Italian daily newspaper with 90% of it's content focusing on Italian football, if people here weren't buying it in whatever considerable amount gives them a profit for doing so.

As for the "soccer" versus "football" complaint: here in in The United States, we have something called the "National Football League," which is a game that is completely different from the type of football 99% of the world outside the US, knows. But we do have it, so to avoid confusion, many people use the term "soccer" to address what you call "football." It is not meant as a sign of "disrespect" or ignorance- it's simply used to avoid confusion. Why you and other get your undergarments in a bunch over it, I'd love to know.

By the way, the best selling "football" magazine in the world is called "World Soccer." I find it humorous that it is a British publication out of London. I hardly think by calling it "World Soccer" instead of "World Football," they are displaying ignorance. Rather, they are merely avoiding the confusion over American football and "football." Some Americans- as well as English, say "soccer". Italians say "calcio." And others say "futbol." So, I guess it's all relative to what country you're standing in when you discuss it but the bottom line is, all of the words refer to the same thing.

As for the FIFA series, EA Sports is an American company but FIFA itself is produced in Canada. I sent off a few E-mails to EA pleading with them to consult Europeans over rosters, etc., but as long as people keep buying the game and there's no real competition, I doubt they'll change there SOP. The rosters this year are a disaster and over 100 players are missing from Serie A. It is a disgrace. Maybe Actua SOCCER 4(made by in the UK by Gremlin), will be better?

My dream patch would be (you may have already said some of these and some would obviosley be impossible):
1. Linesmen who call offsides and all that
2. At least 20 worldwide commentaters
3. An option to create your own team badge.
4. INTERNET SUPPORT!
5. A graphical bench and fourth referee.
6. More Leagues and the possibility when you get relegated to play in the lower division.
7. Customize adboards
8. A physio that comes on for injuries.
9. More awards in league play (golden boot etc.)
10. Practise scenario creator.
11. Customize players width.
12. Fix bugs like keeper handling out of area.
13. A stadium for every team.
14. Stadium creator.

Spursfreak the game you describe i think would take about 5 years to make...

I like your point about more leagues and teams getting relegated and playing in the second division but only for top 5 leagues no more (you know who the top 5 are). Also awards at end of season would be nice, I think they already do this in the NHL series.

All the other stuff is fluff i think nice to have but is it really essential?

3 things i really want that you don't mention:
1.manage only mode, the NFL game includes this option this year FIFA should do same,
2. Improved rosters and ratings for players.
3. Realistic gameplay, i want ten minute half game that gives you somewhat accurate stats, like in FIFA 99, in 2000 you get 40 shots total and scores like 5-4 all the time...
