What, did you expect any different in a country which is part of the Commonwealth?

The coverage in USA(if you have digital dish) blows your coverage out of the water.

And what is the population of Australia, 8 million? Population of Brasil is about 150 million!

Certainly domestic leagues in certain regions of the world (like S. America) are going to be more popular than the Premier League. But a lot of people look to the Premier League as a model. And if you asked them what club comes to mind first they would probably say Manchester U. I saw this on a special (might have been a news report, I can't remember) but people out in the deserts & jungles of Africa and Asia were trying to tune in Man U. games on a radio, t.v or whatever they had with a large group gathered around like a tribal meeting. They even styled their own local clubs after Man U. So if all these people are passionately following Man U. which league do you think they follow? The answer is obvious. I'm not saying it's most popular league in the world (it could be) and I definitely DON'T like Man U. but it's something to think about...

For us non dish people in the states, the Premier League gets top priority and full show on Fox Sports. ESPN occasionally shows Spanish Liga and Italian Serie A matches. And thanks to the International channel I get Fox Sports coverage of the German Bundesliga and the Chilean League. Yay!

So you watch English Games in a Comonwealth country... Uhm... Uhmmmmm...

I still think you didn´t watch Puskas, Cruyff, Di Stefano... playing to say Bergkamp is better.

PS: The last time I remember it was 142 Millions.

First of all, i'd like to state that this topic is very retarded. allow me to explain why. actually, the answer is very simple. organized football has only been around for a little more than a century. a millenium refers to a thousand years. that would mean back to 1000 AD. therefore, please rephrase the question to the best team of the last century and a half or since the beginning of organized football. thank you.

Soccer leagues....

Right, I feel I must express my opinion on the world's different soccer leagues.

I agree what most have said, English (or more accurately, British) football is the best in the world. At least the most fun to watch. Now, in Iceland we can watch the Icelandic, English, German and Italian leagues, and sometimes we see something from the others as well. (Brazilian etc...) Anyway, German football is generally boring, since the players prefer not to take any chances, but play heavy defence, and when they finally score, they rush back to defend their goal, to ensure their win. Icelandic football is like German football in slow motion. Now, Italian and even more so south american football is booooring. Ok, not boring perhaps, the games can be really fast, really exiting, but usually it's 5 secs of play and then a penalty/free kick/someone lying (<- geddit? lying??
on the ground holding his leg, and then suddenly he's back on his feet shouting at the ref for not blowing his whistle. I mean, look at Ronaldo. In WC france, didn't it get on your nerves how he kept falling down and, oops! accidentally onto the ball? You'd NEVER see anyone do anything like that in England!

Ok, maybe I was too harsh, maybe I was generalizing... There are exceptions, of course. Dortmund's Lehmann springs to mind in the game vs. Rangers when he (quite clumsily, but still did it) put up the goal that ensured a penalty shootout for Dortmund. Those who don't know Lehmann, he's Dortmund's goalie, and he was playing a striker at the end of the game
Now that's risky!
And so on... But, generally, English football is the fastest, most brutal, most fun-for-the audience.

Right.

Someone's going to be angry now....

Why would anyone be angry that`s spot on. Although you forgot to trash the Spanish league which has to be one of the worst in the world.
I watched Celta Vigo V Athletic Bilbao this morning and i must say i must have only seen a hanful of challenges that were clean. Apart from these every tackle clean or not was awarded with a freekick because of the winging pussy that can`t handle being tackled either that or it was a foul because the defensive quality is non existant.

PS: i knew that Spanish football wasn`t popular but i at least thought the home fans would watch it. But i hear the commentator say that they gave hundreds of school kids free tickets to make it look like they had a crowd, pathetic eh!

BRITTISH FOOTBALL #1

OH my... Oh my now the Spanish league is not popular...

Oh my... Next will be that Celtic is better then Brazil 70, Hungary 54 and Holland 74...

BTW if England made the best players in 120 years, why they just won 1 World Cup? Curious...

This English vs Latin football discussion is not going anywhere!!! It's a cultural matter. English like to play with a fast transition from defence to attack (kicking the ball to the air) and they like that, and they have their league, so good for them.
But we, south american people, love to see how the ball receive a good treatment. It's slower but the ball pass from one player to another and the players get into the area with the control of the ball. We love that way, and thanks God we have ours leagues.

I'm not saying that ALL south american leagues and teams are good, but please do not judge those leagues based in one game of an small league. Try to see Brasilian teams like Corinthians, Palmeiras, Vasco or Argentinian River, Boca, San Lorenzo or Velez

I belive that the most popular leagues are the Italian and Spanish leagues for one simple reason they have the best foreign players in their squads.example argentinians will watch fiorentina games just to see Batigol and Brazilians will watch Inter to see Ronaldo.the same goes for chileans wih salas in lazio and the dutch want to see half their national team that plays in Barcelona.theres also a lot of small countries that will see these two leagues because their star player made it there.example george weah and i bet many paraguayans are watching bayern games because Santacruz plays there....about the team of the century all i know is one name cant be left out MARADONA with or without coke Diego did it all even scored with his hand kissed cannigia in the mouth shot reporters with his bb gun did numerous interviews drunk called havelange a crook was banned from the u.s.a has nuerous urecognized kids all over italy ,won a worldcup all by himself and was kicked out of a world cup, took napoli to the top ,Destroyed competion in the U-17,drove a tank to practice, scored the gratest goal in worldcup history and he critised nike for adding another color to the boca jrs blue and gold saying "im not wearing this shirt until they take out these silver stripes" while wearing a puma shirt (what a way to cut a promo) and last but not least he dethroned PELE.....the only thing he didnt get to do was get a monkey drunk this was acomplished by non other than o'animal Edmudo my other hero ....

Lord,
The reason that england only won 1 WC is because most of the greats in the english prem were scots. And the reason that we haven`t got past the 1st round is because it`s against our nature to win anything.

and hey the 66/67 Celts could hammer any lineup!

First of all ,how can you say the premier league is the best .I find it boring .Second ,Im not italian ,in fact I live in Canada ,but we get to see only the premier league and serie A here.At first I like the premier league cause that was the only league I knew at first .Then during the World Cup ,after witnessing Vieri's performance ,I started to watch the serie A and I found out how the premier league sucked compared to serie A.You people can say watever you want about how theres many goals scored in the premier league ,but the fact is the games interesting.Look at Man Utd .Im not sure who they r facing saturday but Iknow there oponents sucks. In italy ,we have Juventus against Fiorentina ,Parma vs Rome and dont forget the top 6 are so close to each other.Last thing ,you got to be kidding when you say that the premier league is seen more than the italian league and spanish league together.Id like to remind you ,most of South American would love to watch Serie A than the premier league .Even though Canada is not a soccer country ,I've notice that serie A has more viewers than the premier League .If you wanna prove that the premier league is better ,fine ,but youll be wasting your time cause nobody can change my mind or any others.

Yes this discussion is going nowhere and now some guy comes here and rips the Bundesliga? It is one of the most exciting leagues you can watch! Its as fast paced as any league out there.

You rip these leagues like the were the worst garbage, and in reality they are all great leagues. You who rip Italian leagues are blind and those who rip English must be blind, they both play great football! Spanish league has highest attendance figures of any league in the world last time I checked. Celta Vigo in second place and the stadium was not full? hard to believe...

I do agree with Italy 82, week after week there are great match-ups in Italy, this week you get Parma - Roma and Fiorentina-Juventus. Meanwhile in England we finally have one decent match up: Chelsea-Leeds.

PP,
the reason i didn`t put giggsy in my team to start off was cause i hate manu and my team had already started to resemble them but i just couldn`t leave him out.

RR,
Good to see Dennis in the Team, just not sure how he`d cope in a wide midfield role.
