i've seen some Metallic effect tutorials on various sites but they aren't similar to what i posted.
Actually i wasn't even trying a metal effect when that fell into place... i was trying a transparent glass effect

jealousy reign my body when i see all those photoshop geniuses in the grafix forum (all this text removments from a photo, these text effects, beautiful sigs, gif animations! arghhh, i wish i could manipulate only one of those stuffs

This isn't a great effect or anything, just showing you how much you can accomplish using the layer styles... you'd be surprised, the possibilities are endless 
Also, what's nice about the layer styles is that you can save them, and use them in the future without having to recreate them

That's awesome MastaLFC!!! I had a go at a similar thing myself, just plain text experimenting with different layer effects.
