It's not done yet but apparently there won't be any problem. Zambrotta agreed the 4 years contract. Thuram is in vacations and will return tomorrow.

And Thuram is being bought as backup and a veteran presence...something along the lines of the role Larsson played (obviously not on the field, but in the locker room)
Zambro is awesome, and Thuram, when well rested, is a defender I would take to play in a cup final any day.....

I know Rijkaard will probably play him, but he wouldn't fit in my defence.

Agreed, but Thuram isn't the monster who plays every game anymore.....
Of course for a cup final....your lineup is nice....but Gio usually gets cover from Edmilson or Marquez anyway, and he is good going forward.....
Oleguer is good because he is versatile, and he improved amazingly last year....but I think we'll still see a lot of both him and Gio, due to many matches this year, plus it allows us to rest the key players so they don't wear down as much.....

I know its on the verge of happening, but my two most reliable sources have nothing about it officially.

What are the finances involved in that case? Im really curious because I get the feeling that Zambrotta wanted nothing to do with Chelsea or England.

The individual money is not there, but the contract lengths are and the transfer fees are supposedly @ 14m for Zambro and 5 for Thuram (I think Euros, not sure)

Thuram and Zambrotta sign for Barca

FC Barcelona has reached an agreement with Juventus for the transfer of Lilian Thuram and Gianluca Zambrotta. Thuram has signed a two-year contract while Zambrotta has committed himself for the next four years.


This Thursday, Thuram and Zambrotta became the latest additions to the Barca squad for the 2006-07 season following on from Eidur Gudjohnsen's move from Chelsea earlier in the summer. The former Juventus stars were two of the outstanding players in the recently finished World Cup and were included in the tournament's best eleven.

Thuram and Zambrotta, together with the rest of the Barca squad who took part in the World Cup, will join up with the team for the tour of Mexico and the United States.

Holy crap man. To be perfectly honest, Henry to Barca didnt scare me all that much. I knew he was likely to be the only major acquisition they made this summer, and I reasoned that you can only play so many attackers in a starting 11. Their attack was already deadly as is, and adding one more element wasnt going to help them that much. This move is for like half that price and makes Barca alot better where they were weakest. They just added the best fullback in the world and a CB who can still ball and is as athletic as any to a team that won the Champions League. F*ck. F*ck F*ck F*ck. Knocking them off in Europe just got much more difficult

I dont know, I might give them the edge as Zambrotta is younger but it seems kind of even eh. Zambrotta and Cannavaro = (Y). Thuram and Emerson = Meh.

Rumor is we turned down the chance to sign Zambrotta because Juve wanted Thuram to be included in the deal ( like what Barca did ). They did not want to sell him just byhimself it was either with Thuram or none of them. Here is what Mijatovic said.

Rea Madrid also wanted Gianluca Zambrotta, but Mijatovic pulled the plug on talks when Juve insisted that Lilian Thuram be included in the operation.

"Madrid doesn't need a player like Thuram. His age and the position he plays means he doesn't appeal to us," said Mijatovic. "They said that Barca were ready to sign both of them, but I couldn't care less."

Mijatovic went on: "Emerson is one of the best midfielders in the world and finally Real will be strong in that position. For Cannavaro, not much needs to be said.

"He will soon become one of the leaders of the team and a hero to the Bernabeu crowd."

I wish he would have proposed to not take Emerson and instead take Cannavaro with Zambrotta :P
