"ZINEDINE ZIDANE has been named as Fifa's World Player of the Year for 2000, for the second time in three years, in Rome on Monday.
The French playmaker becomes only the second player ever to win the award twice following Ronaldo winning the award in 1996 and 1997.
The Juventus star scooped the award in 1998 following France's World Cup glory and has won again on the back of the part he played in his country's European Championship success this summer.
Real Madrid's Portuguese midfielder Luis Figo, who became the world's most expensive player with his controversial move from Barcelone to Real Madrid, was second in the awards and Barca's Brazilian striker Rivaldo third.
The 28-year-old won the annual event organised by World football's governing body with 370 points to Figo's 329 and Rivaldo's 263.
The votes were cast by 150 national team coaches, who awarded five points to their first-choice player, three to their second and one to their third.

In the other awards to mark a full century of organised football, Real Madrid won team of the century, while Maradona and Pele shared the player of the century award.
Spanish giants Real beat off competition from Bayern Munich, Manchester United and the two Milan teams to scoop the award.
Real have an impressive list of success - eight European Cups, including the first five from 1956 and two out of the last three of the century, plus two Uefa Cups, two World Club Cups, 27 Primera Liga titles and 17 Copa del Rey's.
Fifa decided to split the Player of the Century gong after rumours of internet fraud clouded the validity of the on-line poll that was topped by Maradona. They decided to also have an award voted for by Fifa and that prize went to Pele.
Upset at having to share the award, the Argentine legend left the ceremony before the Brazilian hero received his award but nobody could argue against either player being given their accolades.
Leeds United and South African international Lucas Radede scooped a Fifa Fair Play award for his conduct on the pitch and for his work to fight racism."
HELL WHY???
