What was the best punk record ever?

I agree too. I'm fed up of seeing band change their sound and/or image to try and sell records. Bands like Limp Bizkit, Marylin Manson (there's a fella that would be nothing if it wasn't for his image, which I think is stupid anyway), Robbie Williams, etc. To make matters worse their music is ****e anyway.

It's not often you see genuine bands anymore that are in it for the music. I'd like to see more like Nirvana, Blur, Hendrix, Beatles. Who pushed the boundries, who weren't afraid of writing things that sounded **** as long as they were experimenting with music (especially Blur's 13, never thought I'd hear a more experimental yet fantastic record in the late 90s, early 2000s.)

Anyway, to get back to your topic. I think London Calling, although I'm not going to vote because it's a tough one and I'm not a particularly punky person. Although I like NOFX and the Clash, I don't like Sex Pistols (sort of similar reasons to first paragraph, felt they relied on controversy and image too much) Blink182 (like someone said, Backstreet Boyz with spikey hair and tattoos), Sum 41, Beverly Hills 90210. :D

Got to agree with you there. It happens across the board. Whitesnake really went off the boil when David Coverdale dropped the likes of Pace, Lord, Marsden, Murray and Moody to go and ponce around in Spandex and make-up with a bunch of Motley Crue look-a-likes.

Some of the old boys are back on the circuit as The Snakes and they still pump out that good old raw blues rock sound!:D

Britney Spears in "Crossroads"

What next JayLo in "East Enders" and Christina Aguilera in "Coronation Street"?:mrpimp:

40 oz to Freedom!!!<---Great album.:mrpimp:

More specifically, the intro to Waiting for my Ruca, the first song on the album.

I voted for Nevermind the Bullocks because it is pure energy(albiet nothing compared to a Pennywise album), could be a top ten album today because it is better than Blink's stuff, and I sing along to every ****ing song on that album. Jonny Rotten is great dudes. It also opened the flood gates for punk bands, and modern punk. The Ramones were the grandfathers of it all, but the Sex Pistols played faster and harder, and they had a really nialistic attitude. The Ramones had an attitude, but there albums seem kind of weak. It's Alive is their best, and that's a live album.

NOFX is a great band, but I think their best album is So long and thanks for all the Shoes. Everyone should buy it.

I never liked London Calling, it is a bit tame for me. It's odd because I like the Specials who are really tame ska(compared to now), but when I get a punk album I want a tight one, and London Calling is not one. Dookie is great, and that would be my second choice, because that album got me into the music at an early age, and I've never turned back.

By the way, I think the best "punk" band out there, using a loose interpretation of the word, is Less than Jake. They ****ing rule. That is one hell of a band.

Yeah man, I love The Specials too! 'Message for Rudy' is the song that got me into them... Madness had some great ska tunes too.

I stand by my Nevermind the Bullocks vote. Don't really stand by anything else I said 5 and a half years ago.

I'd go for The Clash's "London Calling", but not exactly for being "the best punk record ever recorded", but for being the best album in that list, a masterpiece in my eyes (along with "Sandinista")

Nevermind The Bollocks is a great punk album, although it's myth goes way over it's quality... Still, the opening bass lines from Holydays in The Sun gets me into destructive mood everytime

How come the Ramones album chosen is not "Ramones"?

Where's Dead Kennedys? "Fresh fruits for rotting vegetables", anyone? Jello Biafra is the greatest punk frontman of all time (considering Joe Strummer is a rock n roll man above it all). No mohawks, no Sid Poser act, just simple raw, intense and funny-as-**** energy!

NOFX. Green Day, Offspring even Blink are interesting punk acts, NOFX especially being the founders of the skate-punk-lalala style, but c'mon, in terms of punk, how can those albums compare to The Misfits' "Walk Among Us" or DOA's "Hardcore 81"? Or a legendary band like the Bad Brains? or Black Flag?

And considering that defining "punk" it's a lost cause, you'd even have to consider The Stooge's "Funhouse", being probably the album that planted the whole punk rock genre's roots!

Dead Kennedy's - Fresh Fruits for Rotting Vegetables

Just about the only punk record I like.

And let's get this thread in the music forum.

It's fine in here. It gets grandfathered in the SG Lounge being it existed before a music forum.

The Don't

Starting XI
Never Mind The Bollocks has five good songs on it, the rest are awful, but I think it's probably the quintessence of punk and therefore the most important in that genre, and that's without even mentioning it's impact on music as a whole.
