What was the best punk record ever?

OK, guys, this is the definitive music related question. What was the best punk record ever? What? Didn't listen to all of them? What are you waiting for?

Best punk album ever in my opinion is "Plastic Surgery Disasters" by the Dead Kennedys! ...those were the days of real punk. I don't really consider bands like Blink182 to be punk because they're more like pop stars with a wannabe punk image, kinda like a rock version of the backstreet boys..:p

I don't know if I'd rate Nirvana's Nevermind as punk. Maybe. But let's say it's not punk, then Green Day's Dookie wins it over the albums you mentioned, though I must say that Insomniac is even better, every song on that album is nice to listen to, espescially "walking Contradiction" it has some great lyrics, such as "losers winning big on the lottery" Billie Joe is so right about that :). How come I never win?? :D

I agree with shinji. Real punk was The Dead Kennedy's, Black flag with and without Henry Rollins. Circles Jerks,
Agent Orange, The Vandals all of these great California punk bands. :mrpimp: I like pennywise as well. THey're from Cali.

i agree with shinji as well their are heaps of "punk" bands and then their are real punk bands ... most of them signed on independent labels rather than BMG or EMI or what ever

Nofx are the best modern era punk band and seeing as i wasnt really in the blag flag era (although i have listened to their CDs) i would say punk in drublic and the decline are two awesome albums

Well, I agree with things everybody said, which is always good! :)

Bands like the Dead Kennedys, Minor Threat, etc. were really breaking barriers and fully deserve the punk title. But before them we had the Ramones (who were recently inducted to the Hall of Fame), the Sex Pistols and the Clash.
[Funny, because I seriously thought I should add the Dead Kennedys to the poll]

Nowadays, we call punk to almost every band that dyes its hair green or red. They are the equivalent of the boys bands with a punk look. In fact, they are doing nothing other than burying punk.
However, "Dude Ranch", by Blink182 is a good LA melodic HC record. After that they simply sold out.

I think I voted NOFX's "Punk in Drublic", because they are one of my favourite bands ever (and great act live, btw). Actually, I own all of their records and a couple bootlegs. Plus, they made the dream of every independent band: be successful without EVER selling out. They have their own label, they record when they feel like, they play live when there's the urge to do it, etc.

BUT, I should have voted for Green Day. The Dookie album must have been one of the most played records in my cd player. I also own all of their records, special editions, etc. They really influenced me as, probably, no other band did. And yes, "Insomniac" is an amazing record, perhaps one of the most underrated in history.
For the first time, I looked like my heros without having to change my clothes and hairstyle (I was 16, so bare with me :D ).

I also had doubts about including Nirvana, but hey, if they weren't punk, if that wasn't their spirit, then I never heard punk in my life.

Punk rock changed my life -> The Sublime fans should know this one. ;)

err..I don't even have MTV...and for your info, I'm 29 and grew up surrounded by the punk scene and used to frequent grungy punk bars that you'd be afraid to step into, so don't presume to tell me what I do and don't know...anyhow,you're probably just some kid who has his "punk" albums sitting on the shelf right next to crap like Brittany Spears and Bon Jovi..

i agree with shinji viewing of punk rock...

the question is very hard so i got 3 records as the best ones ever:

Dead Kennedys - Fresh Fruit For Rotting Vegetables
Clash - London Calling
Sex Pistols - Never Mind The Bollocks... Here's The Sex Pistols

Well I have to agree with some criticism of certain members on several bands. I think a lot of the popular rock bands are very commercial and "Backstreet Boys playing rock music". I'm talking about Limp Bizkit, Korn and more of that trash. Nirvana, Green Day and more of the older bands were just about expressing themselves and just playing music on stage.

BTW I do think that Blink 182 keeps on stealing from the big Green Day archive. Blink 182 sounds quite the same, but they have very lame, "funny" lyrics. Green Day's lyrics are actually about something.

Tre Cool, Green Day's drummer, is so funny. Here's what he had to say about Blink182's music: "They sure sound like a good band!". :D :D
