Chiellini wasn't sent off for the tackle on Drogba. He was sent off because he bad mouthed the ref. Anyway, he could have picked up a second yellow plenty of times but the ref bottled it.
I'll pull a Wenger and say I didn't see Chiellini bad-mouth the ref, honestly. My first impression, and many others would say, was that he was retroactively sent off for the tackle he made. But if it was for badmouthing, I guess I'll concede you can't argue for that.
A goalie handling the ball outside the area is not a red card offence, unless it stops a certain goal being scored. The ref gave Juve a free kick for handball, which is correct.
I'll admit I'm not a walking rulebook, but handling the ball outside your area is inexcusable and careless on the part of a goalkeeper. It should be a red card, just for sheer stupidity on the part of a goalkeeper.
The better team went through. Thats what TWO legs are for, so your team has TWO attempts to qualify. Juve failed twice not once.
Juve failed once(barely) and were screwed once. Chelsea played a little better in London while Juve were clearly the better side in Torino.
Technology in football would have given Chelsea Drogba's goal, from his free kick that DID cross the line. It works for both teams.
Technology in Football would have never awarded that freekick that led to the debatable goal because Tiago chested the ball. He most certainly didn't handle it. It works for both teams. More specifically, it would have worked much more for Juventus tonight. That disallowed freekick that should have never been awarded sparked Chelsea into life. It was all Juve before that.
You win some decisions and you lose some. Thats football. The ref was sh!t to be sure, but he certainly wasn't on our side tonight. He was simply crap.
Unfortunately. What's even more unfortunate is that the horrific decisions could have been prevented using simple and real time video technology.
