It's not all about scoring, how many ballon dor ruud or eto'o won?

Ronaldo scored almost same as Messi and he won major titles last year, that being said he was fantastic in euro. He is as effective as Leo in classics.

Almost as much. Not as much. When did Ruud or Eto'o score 50 goals in a La Liga season? They certainly both played there several years. And really? All Messi does is score? Ronaldo might deserve that, but not Messi.

Messi scores a lot in Barca because 10 players play for him.

Ronaldo scores almost same as him while whole Real tactics are not based on him, Higuain and Benzema scored so many goals last season as well.

Also, Ronaldo proved himself at International level, Messi was **** at coppa and world cup, yes he can score a hat trick against some second rate south American team.

I'm not Ronaldo fan, and everybody here know it, but some of you are so biased.

That being said, we are not comparing their abilities here, ballon'dor is given to footballer of the year, not most skilled player.

If you compare Messi and Ronaldo total abilities, Messi is a better footballer.

But I think there were players including Ronaldo which had a better year than Messi last year. Players like Pirlo, Iniesta and Ronaldo were spectacular at international level, and if scoring matters, players like Ronaldo and Falcao came up with good goal tallies.

I simply cannot anything that makes Messi better than Cristiano last year.

Unfortunately you brought up two players who play in the same League as Messi so the old statement "LaLiga is crap anyone can score there" can't take place.

Primera:

Messi: 50 goals - 37 matches
Cristiano: 46 goals - 38 matches
Falcao: 24 goals - 34 matches

UCL/EL:

Messi: 14 goals - 11 matches
Cristiano: 10 goals - 10 matches
Falcao: 12 goals - 15 matches

National team (Argentina/Portugal/Columbia), in 2012:

Messi: 12 goals - 8 matches
Cristiano: 5 goals - 13 matches
Falcao: 5 goals - 6 matches

Case closed.

As for managers, if it goes to anyone other than Del Bosque or Di Matteo it's a sham as they are the only two to have won major cross border tournaments. Also, Del Bosque's Spain went into the EUROS as favourites whereas Chelsea were rank outsiders and also Di Matteo took an FA cup aswell so really there should be no debate.

I'm not so sure about this - surely as with all statistics they need to be contextualized. Ronaldo's league goals helped his team to the title and some of his International goals came in a major tournament. I am not saying he deserves to win, he probably should have carried Portugal a little further in the EUROs for that, but just spouting statistics really doesnt "close the case"

Maybe not for Ronaldo:

Can't talk about Messi vs. Ronaldo. Much more balanced duel this year, at least in terms of statistics.

But it surely does for Falcao, because kp said there were players who had a better last year than Messi, and he gave Falcao as an example. Ronaldo and Messi are the only players which should be mentioned in this battle. The others don't even come close both in terms of ability and statistics.

Oh yeah you are right about Falcao he is nowhere close...... I think a legitimate argument could be made for Drogba or Iniesta as they both guided their teams to big, big trophies, but yeah statistically Messi and Ronaldo are in a league of their own.

Barca fans are interesting, two years ago, Ronaldo scored more goal than Messi in league and almost same in UCL, they said trophy matters and Messi should win it. This year, they are poining to stats.

Those international stats were ridiculos, Messi didnt score a goal in major tornoments for years, yes scoring double against second rate south american team and brazil under 23 is so spectular. Ronaldo scored in euro, major cup.

I remember Arnau mentioned during Euro that Ronaldo deserves ballon dor, shame alcohol reduced his memory.

Tbh, I can't understand Ballon D'or winning criteria sometimes:

In 2006-2007, Ronaldinho was magical in Barca shirt, he won La Liga and UCL with Barca and socred lots of goals next half season. But Cannavaro won Ballon D'or because of the world cup.

In 2010-2011, same thing happened, Messi won La Liga with Barca but he didn't score a goal in World cup and his team was eliminated. But players like Xavi, Iniesta or Snejder that had good club and International year didn't win Ballon d'or.

Cannavaro during 2006 world cup was much better than Xavi, Iniesta and Sneijder during 2010 world cup
