post-match interview, Zlatan: "Mi manca Cassano"

me too, man, me too :-(

Nov. 24 Update:

apart from the poor officiating (for/against both sides), that match went perfectly, IMO:

DEFICIENCIES
the midfield and defence repeatedly kept trying to shoot itself in the foot with inexplicable passes, erroneous first touches, and clumsy, late challenges -- overall, the individuals who need replacing in the team, IMO, conveniently put their respective hands up ... there were two notable exceptions to this: the first is Aquilani, who had a shocker and should have seen red for the penalty, but should still be purchased, and can be useful ... the second is Abbiati, who made some sensational saves, but should still be relegated to second choice keeper (at best) for his obvious technical deficiencies ...

THE INDOMITABLE BLACK STAR
what, a, goal! way to step it up Prince! way to leave your mark against the big dogs on the big stage ... I've always maintained that when players go from controlled and measured to slow and lethargic, then age has become a factor ... Prince's energy puts to shame the efforts of a few of the oldies [and lazies] around him ... but his spirit and attitude should act as an invigorant, surely?

BITE THE HAND THAT FED
in his season and a half at Milan, Zlatan has faced all his former clubs ... and in each of the competitive matches against Ajax, Juve, Inter, and now Barça, Zlatan has scored! (Y)

his goal last night also meant that he's scored in every Champions League game he's played in this season ... that's great, but it'll be the knockout rounds where he and Milan will be judged ...

GOOD, BUT NOT GOOD ENOUGH ... YET
the scoreline and performance summed up that Milan have the individuals to produce against the big dogs, but there are still weak links that need to be addressed ... it was a perfect result to combine enthusiasm and humility about this Milan side ... most importantly, it will hopefully show Berlusconi, Galliani, and any other powers that be that there is an obvious need to bolster the squad in the Jan transfer window, with 2 key signings eligible for European competition ... Milan just need to look across town to see a template on how to take a team that was obviously second-best to Barça in the Group Stages, and make them European Champions come season end ...

just wonder how long it will take before they mention Maxi López :nape: ...
so it didn't take long for his name to be mentioned ... and in the intervening month since I posted that comment, Milan have actually agreed a deal with Catania for Maxi :nape: -- a right they will exercise if they don't sign a bigger name, or if Pippo Inzaghi leaves in January ...

Carlitos is that bigger name ... senseless transfer, due to his ineligibility in Europe ... but tbh, even if he was eligible, I'd still say "ugh"; not a fan of his ...

the only CL-ineligible striker I'd sign from City would be Super Mario (which won't happen till the summer at least; or 2013, more likely) ...

I still say Poldi is the guy Uncle Fester should be going for (for the reasons stated in my previous post on this issue) ...

and Raffie too, of course ...

Poldi... As someone who wants italian clubs to fail in europe for a few reasons, this would be a great transfer! But I think I hate Podolski even more than that, so don't want him to get the benefit of playing for another big club. His ego is still out of control and I imagine some massive training ground bust ups with Zlatan. He literally hit Ballack in the face in 2009 when he had the gall to suggest he actually try hard. This was the captain of the national team. Poldi looks out for Poldi and no one else.

The Von Trapps
meh ... I'd rather plan for the ideal scenario of Cassano returning just before the end of the season ... and so, on a short-term loan deal, I'd take Poldi over Carlitos based on UCL eligibility, and based on this:
Xifio;3138053 said:
- I'm not against Poldi on a short-term deal -- his stint at Bayern means nothing to me; the fact is: this team doesn't have a left-foot option up front, and he'd be fairly useful as a stop-gap ...
actually, I wouldn't even mind Titi on a short-term deal (during the MLS off-season) if Milan draw APOEL in the 1st Knockout Round -- less like Becks, and more like that Henrik Larsson to Man Yoo deal ...

Xifio

The Von Trapps
for all that ego massaging, in Uncle Fester, Milan trusts ... but Poldi's unfortunately not a priority for the club ...

also interesting is that they're considering selling (in the summer) both Robinho[od] and The Duck, to Chelsea and Man City respectively, on what I anticipate will be player(s) + good cash ...

ShiftyPowers

Make America Great Again
Lol at Robinho to Chelsea, hard to see another english team sign him even for free. Pato transfer is more realistic, but I hope not.

Do you know if there its any news on Cassano? It might be tough to count on him going forward if he doesn't start training at a high level as we get to maybe April.

I will agree that Milan seems to be the best club at handling egos since Berlusconi bought it. Poldi may not be the worst for, but he's always a gamble. He'll be relatively cheap too because his contact is up in 2013. Still, Zlatan is getting older and Cassano had a stroke, so I don't see why they would even consider selling Pato.

SG's van Bommel
I doubt Milan is considering selling Pato. He should be safe as long as he keeps banging Barbara.. unless daddy has a problem with that.

The Von Trapps
^ hah, Babs seems like she'd be cold-blooded when it comes to business ... and Silvio's too busy with Bunga-Bunga to be bothered ...

Pato's abilities aren't in question; problem is that he's been injured on and off, and far too often ... the logic is that it might be more prudent to cash in while a club like Man City is willing to drop big cash for him, and throw in a player or two ...

if Milan get a 20 mil offer for Robinho from anyone, they should take the money and run! but yeah, I'd be surprised if Chelsea actually come calling, but Galliani may take the chance on swapping Robinho for Torres if he can wrangle some change out of the deal as well ...

Xifio

The Von Trapps
hah, it won't be a good swap for whom? nah, even I think Milan are better of not pursuing that swap ... on current form and finishing ability, Pernando Torres would indeed be a step down from Robinho ...

in the idealest of scenarios, Milan could slick-talk their way to including Binho in a part-exchange deal for Neymar in a year or two -- in reality, though, that's not going to happen ... but Robinho + a little cash swapped for Ganso? maybe ... I like Ganso, but it looks like the injury-proneness criteria has/will put Milan off ...

I'm relieved that Carlitos is pushing to go home to Argentina (which one would think was his only option when he wanted to leave England due to being away from his family in Argentina) ... I hope the Boca deal can somehow happen soon so that Milan both don't get him, AND have plenty of time to explore alternatives ... speaking of which: Super Mario got into another training ground bust-up; time to prod a little in that direction, methinks  ...
