Ahaha, Zidane!

I don't think we should blame Zidane to cost them the game. Even with 11 Vs 11, it would be difficult to score the equalising goal in such a little time, unless a miracle...

I remember Roberto Baggio (the best player at 94 and a player with a great career) for blazing the final penalty over the bar, losing the final to Brazil in 1994. And you think Zidane won't be remembered for this headbutt? Come on.
But did missing that penalty and falling to his knees diminsh anything he had accomplished, or did afterward?

Every great has a shameful/heartbreaking moment. Spooning the penalty, kicking Diego Simeone, Rivaldo's dive, the kung fu kick. Theyre all shocking and stupid in their own way. But that just serves as an oddity, not why we remember them

He will be remembered for many things......HEADBUTTING ONE OF HIS OPPONENTS IN THE CINGULAR MOST IMPORTANT GAME ON THE PLANET will no doubt be at the top of that list.:alex:

For the record Num Lock (any anyone else who is French), I have nothing against France, in fact I was cheering for you. But Zidane should be absolutely ashamed of himself and he let down his entire country.

I have nothing against him getting spray on a minor knock, I have a problem with Marcelo Balboa thinking it was the most courageous thing he's seen since Der Kaiser had to wear a sling in order to finish a World Cup game. It's not even close.
Yeah, I didnt hear that. The Best Buy I was watching it in (thankfully) had the sound off. But I agree theyre worlds apart, and conciously listening to anything Marcelo Balboa says is a recipe for heartburn. Thanks to him, all of America thinks Lukas Podolski is Germany's David Beckham and Marco Mazeratti is a world class defender

It's said everywhere all the time, penalties are a battle of wills. When your captain gets sent off, or reverse it, if the other team's captain gets sent off, there's a morale shift. The Italians are not traditionally good penalty takers; without Zidane on the field, yes I think they got a boost. And hell, I think France may have scored in the last 10 minutes anyway; they were dominating and the Italians were just sitting back.
Well, you might have a valid argument there, that it couldve caused the Italians to choke. But to me they looked confident all game and blunted every French attack (despite the possession the French held second half). But when France was 6 inches from being 4/4, I think its safe to say they probably used the red card as motivation. Maybe the "lets win it for him" mentality crept in

On the long run Zidane's feats won't be overshadowed (a bit tainted perhaps), however it's clear his dismissal tipped the scales for Italy, technicaly and mentally - a hell of a shocking sight it was, even for a neutral fan.

like the old saying goes sh1t happens, he should've been able to control his emotions, but that doesn't take anything way from the fact that he was instrumental in us winning '98 and euro '00, and getting this far.

do i feel cheated cuz of what he did yeah, but it'd be hypocritical of me to zero in on this after all he has done in the blue shirt, so close he was to pull it off again, alas it wasn't meant to be.

this game was weird for a number of reasons, Henry was knocked out, you could see it, he tried his best even though after the hit he wasn't the same, Vieira's injury just sucked for us, Zidane giving in to his emotions was a blow.

i don't blame Treze, obviously the coach never trusted in him, he played one lousy match and never played again of course he was not goin to be ready mentally to play in the final, the thing is, when the PKs where looming and Henry was already out i knew then, we would not make it, there was nobody else to take it.

Congrats to the italians here, but this spot is not gonna tarnish what Zidane did throughout his career for the blue shirt.

Well, rationalizing it like that, I might be able to see where youre coming from. When it happened, I didnt know what the f*ck was going on, to be honest. Then I saw the replays and thought "I cant believe he got away with that". So its likely that the French were at least very disheartened by it

I would call it a HUGE stretch to say he lost the match for them, though

Yes, in 1986, but that has nothing to do with this...we stink at the sport but I'm not denying that!

This is how this French loser should always be remembered. Last game of his career, the most important game in the football world and he does this. What a waste.

Why don't you shut it nOOb, you don't know sh*t about football that's for sure, Zidane is one of the best players ever and you should show some respect idiot! You can't judge Zizou on this cause he did so many beautiful things in this tournament for France and in his career.
It's a pity that his career ends like this but a nOOb like you don't understand that even if it would bite you in the @ss (:/) moron!

Would love to see a compilation of Zidane's career... it'll have the goals, the 360 and then at the end, the headbutt... possibly right after clips of him headbutt the balls into the Brazilian goal in '98. :junior:

Zidane is a legend, a great player.. and seriously, this will not affect his position as one of the greats of the game.

Heck, most ppl think the kung-fu kick and hands of god are highlights.. adds that little bit of character to the stars. The human side.

Besides, this is better than if he skyed the penalty in the shootout..

By the way it's interesting to note that Zidane picked up a total of 14 red cards during his career.

The same total as Roy Keane.

Great way to finish his career - how good was the footage of the great man walking past the Cup?

Sheer brilliance.

How many is Rooney on?
I reckon Rooney can "better" that he doesnt suffer any career-ending injury..
