Well first of all, Crysis will be VERY HARD to run on PC...trust me...MANY of my friends have tried...

Since I am pretty familiar with technology, I too, am in the same situation as you. I want to get a new PC but should it have vista or XP?

From what I learned, you'd be better off with XP...many things are still incompatible with Vista (although companies deny it), and Vista is still pretty unpopular...

Not even the major corporations and businesses who ALWAYS have to stay ahead with technology switched to Vista...many still use XP...

Currently people still depend or XP...Vista is just too new...

So I recommend getting XP, but I personally am waiting maybe 1 more year until companies start making Vista-compatible programs.

Hope that helps! :)

That's a good post. For Crysis, I have a friend with 3 GHZ dual core CPU, 1 GB RAM and a 256 videocard and he is playing Crysis perfectly on normal. And for the OS... I still can't decide.

Games are still designed to play and run on an XP 32bit platform hence the trouble people are getting with Vista. I'd go for XP if your a hard core gamer but be prepared to upgrade to Vista or so in 8/9 months when Microsoft have fixed problems. Gamers are having no end of trouble with Crysis, Call of Duty 4 etc on Vista but very few on XP have complained if you look at the official forums for these games.

GET VISTA!! If your computer is as powerful as you say then you wont have any problems. If you get XP you wont be using the capabilities of your computer at full. Its like when XP just got released and there were ass-holes that preferred to downgrade to 98!! who can believe that?? Vista works perfect. I use a lot of programs and the only one it doesnt run is oedit and thats because oedit is too much out of date and its not a professional program at all. Fifa 07 and 08 run so smoothly and so any other game i want to try.

Mates, just so you know, ONLY VERY VERY RECENTLY have companies started making programs SOMEWHAT compatible with Vista...like I said...it's too new

I agree with Muzzsjm: Many programs are primarily designed for XP x32 because many people STILL use XP, and these programs tend to be incompatible with Vista...

Destrones: You are very lucky to have Vista and to have 07 and 08 work...trying to get those 2 games to work on Vista is PURE luck...if you're lucky it will work, if not then sorry...

Ultra Blue, if you get Vista then it's pretty much guaranteed you won't be able to run any kind of program you previously owned...

Since I am just like you I will tell you what the best option seems: Wait.

If you wait maybe 1 more year then Vista will become a bit more popular and you will have less problems and headaches...also new PC components will also come out and prices will fall. Btw, I heard there is a new graphics card slot coming out: PCIe v2.0.

If you'd get a PC now you'd get a PCIe, and in a few years that slot will obsolete (meaning if you want to upgrade your graphics card, you won't be able to)

This is your decision, but I hope I helped you...I would wait.

I dont know what vista versions are you getting or how are you configurating your OS, but vista works as fine as XP and even better. The only thing you may need to do is to disable the annoying UCA. Aside from that there is nothing else you need to have vista working the same way you worked with XP. Im using Premium edition, so maybe those who have the basic one are the ones having problems. So get ultimate or premium and thats all. Only program im not able to use in vista is oedit, thats the reason im posting this from XP because right now im editing some head models and i really hate having to switch from vista to xp only for that but all the other programs work perfect.

Its no luck, i test vista at work in several language versions and all of them work fine. Whats good in vista? interface is obviously more attractive but not only that, its more friendly. Sounds are much better than xp where i had to disable them because they pretty much pierce my eardrums with its high-pitched alarms. Everything is more straight forward and easy to use and find. It has very nice options such as for partitionate disks. Not to mention also includes Chess titans, a great chess game haha

I don't know anyone who has problems with Vista and FIFA. I own many programs, and every of them exept of oEdit works on it.

Well I don't own Vista, I just know all that from what I hear and what reviews I read. And if I were to get Vista I would get Vista Ultimate...

LOL....mate, so I need at least 2 GB of RAM just to run a new interface that has new sounds and has a watch that takes up almost 1/4 of the screen and uses a Sh!tload of memory? Is that why I should get Vista? Or should I get it because it has chess titans?

Vista turned out to be more of a flop than a success for Microsoft...hopefully the next OS that will come out in 2011 will be better...

haha of course interface is not the only good thing. And the 2Gb of memory is not only for being able to run that interface, but for having a better performance as well. We are entering a new age of computering so having less than 1Gb of memory is like being stuck in the past. Thats why new OS make mandatory to have more powerful systems thus computers become better and better every time. I dont see any point in buying old shiit just for saving a few bucks, bucks eventually you will need to expend anyway in increasing your computer capabilities when realizing it was not enough.

I was joking about Chess titans, but its true its a really good game and not available in XP hehe, so if you are a chess player its a must.

Thanks, guys, just one last question:
Can some older games (Warcraft III, WoW, NFS Most Wanted, FarCry etc. ) be played on Vista ?

WoW and Star Wars Galaxies run great on Vista and I have only 1 GB of RAM.

The only problem I'm having with FIFA 08 is that the game crashes after a match in Manager Mode. Any one know how to fix this?
