At what point did you become a fan of your current team?

I became a manchester united fan the year we lost to bayer leverkusen in the champions league. Mostly because they showed alot of united games out here in the states, but i loved the players and it seemed like a good team to watch (which it is :) ) I learned about the amazing treble season about a year later from the internet and thought to myself, figures i miss an amazing event and join the team when we lose a champs league game. But anyway, thats my story, whats yours?

When I moved to Germany from Croatia, I instantly fell in love with Bayern (although it's still a blur in my mind as to how and why it happend). This was in '94. I've been supporting them since. I had a tough time because where I lived, in Nurnberg, everyone was either for 1.FC Nurnberg or for Schalke and I was the only one in my school that supported Bayern. My parents couldn't afford to buy me a real jersey, so I used to have my dad make me a jersey from a plain white shirt with 'Matthaus" on the back, oh the good old days.

Born into it. My dad's side were all Newcastle fans. My mother's side were all geordies, so it stuck. Flirted with being a devoted Gateshead fan, but then I realised Douglas Hall was bleeding the club dry.

92-93...ish. The erm.. promotion year, yes.

Was born in Northumberland. Took to my first game as a wee nipper at the age of 7 during the 94/95 season, 16 Dec 95, Newcastle United 1 Everton 0. I can remember Ferdinand scoring the winner very clearly.

I was lucky enough to experience the great football we played the following season in 95/96. What a roller coaster ride that season was.

Unfortunately the family moved South and since attending games has been rare. However, i'm off to one of the unis in Newcastle in October, so my time in exile is soon over.

I never "became" a fan of Arsenal. I just am. I live 20 minutes away from Highbury, 25 from Asburton grove.

Vitesse use the same colours as our town's amateur side, just a striped shirt in stead of a plain one. :S

Started following them when they were still in first division, can't say I remember the exact season.

There is only one big club in my city, and I will never support a club outside my city either. So, I didn't really have any choice. :p

Was 10-years old ('95-ish) when I first saw a Porto game on TV (on Eurogoals to be exact). Atm I was starting to loose my interest in the game and even planned to stop playing football. It was that game, that the azul-e-brancos won, that got me back into it. Supported them ever since...

when Sevilla won the league back in 96...actually no, Sevilla hasnt won **** in the past 50 years. I support Sevilla because of family tradition.

Aston Villa: I started supporting them when I was 8 or 9, but what really kindled my interest in the Villans was the FA Cup run the year the final was played at the original Wembley for the last time. I got a lot of sh*t from my friends at school for not supporting a team they actually heard of, like Manchester United or Arsenal, but supporting a smaller team makes success taste all the more sweeter.

Benfica: Unlike shinji, my family didn't really care about futebol, so I was kinda free to choose my club, so to speak. At the time, I chose Benfica, because they were a sleeping giant (around the time Vale e Azevedo was driving the club into the ground), and were starved for success, especially for a club of their size and pedigree.

New England Revolution: Before any of youse accuse me of not supporting my local club, I do. The love affair started when MLS was formed and New England was announced as one of the franchise sites. Unfortunately, I've never been to a match in person (even though I live 30-45 minutes away from their stadium), but I've watched their matches on TV ever since they were formed just over a decade ago.

Grew up in a Corinthians-supporting family, got to know english league by 1998, my bro already supported Man U, so I got to know all the top league teams, identified myself with Liverpool, and it's been true love ever since... no, it was not glory hunting, it has something to do with a reputation for liking good football, no matter if played by opposition (like it was against Benfica), all the tragedies (Heysel, Hillsborough) and the bonding with the fans...
