Hi again, this is only my second post here. I've only recently caught the "soccer bug" and have lots to learn still. I'm a fan of FC Bayern as my girlfriend is from Mantel (near Weiden) in Bavaria's Oberpfalz (sorry for my poor spelling) I'm from Brooklyn NY originally but my grandfather is from Fussen. She & I live in California and follow the developments online and via the few Bayern Munich games we get here on cable. So my posts will be few as I will mainly be learning from reading what is posted here.

Here's my question.........I've read that many expect Kahn to come back as starting keeper, is he 100 % recovered from his injury from last season (based on what I've heard on cable it was a serious thigh injury). What about Rensing? Any possiblity on seeing him as starter and what do you think of his prospects? Many thanks ~!

Yes, he's 100% recovered as seen in the WC when he made some great saves against Portugal like in the old days.

Due to Kahn's age he's a bit more injury prone so Rensing will surely get some playing time, he will probably start some Cup games as well.
From what I've seen so far Rensing has lots of potential but he's not similar to Kahn at all, more like a Hildebrand type of player. He has decent footballing skiles (could play as a field player in the third devision) which will help.

He will be 24 in 2008. That should be the right time to take over Kahn's job.

What do you guys expect from the game against barcelona in the "Gamper trophy"

I think neither barca or bayern will risk much, so they will play at slow peace and wont be a "ecxiting" match.

Hmm Bayern play a league game just two days before the Gamper trophy but we should still play the best team in such a prestigious match.

I don't know what to expect but our players should be in better shape because the season in Germany starts a few weeks earlier.

Let's not forget that we still have Brazzo. Nobody has mentioned him in any of the lineups... neither as a starter or backup. I think he can play on the wing when Schweinsteiger isn't performing. He can play plenty of positions to allow him about 45 minutes of play. Plus, he was a starter at the end of last season.

He's Magath's favorite, he'll get lots of playing time. I loved him in his prime but after several serious injuries he's totally lost it. :(

According to the official fcbayern.de site and not some tabloid paper Bayern made a new offer for Ruud today and Hoeness confirmed that Ruud wants to join us.

Bayern up their bid for van Nistelrooy

Bayern Munich believe they are close to signing Manchester United striker Ruud van Nistelrooy after submitting a new bid for the Dutchman.

Club president Karl-Heinz Rummenigge and general manager Uli Hoeness both believe they have made progress towards completing a deal.

The Bayern website reported on Sunday that a new bid had been lodged for Van Nistelrooy who fell out with United boss Sir Alex Ferguson towards the end of last season.

"He (Van Nistelrooy) wants to come to us," Hoeness told the website. "Now the ball's in Man U's court."

Rummenigge told the Bild am Sonntag newspaper: "He (van Nistelrooy) is one of the best strikers in Europe, he gets goals and he is a personality.

"It would be great if we could land a striker of his calibre."

Real Madrid also want to sign 30-year-old Van Nistelrooy but Rummenigge claimed the Bavarians would not be rushed into a move.

"We have time," he said. "The transfer window is open for five weeks. Van Nistelrooy has told us that he can play for Bayern.

"We have already talked about money. Manchester United must decide the rest and they won't give him away for nothing."

Makaay and Pizarro are being linked with Hamburg. After giving them Trochowski for basically nothing, sold Guerrero for little money and bought van Buyten for friggin 11 million (which they used to buy Kompany) our secret mission to awake a sleeping giant would have finally been accomplished.

with Ronaldo always/currently injured, and Capello's knack of playing two strikers, one targetman, one poacher, I think he'd play.

but I guess maybe Bayern guarentee first team football.
