best sport ever

cricket is basically only popular in india (and by india i mean india, pakistan, and a few little countries around them), australia, and certain parts of british-colonised africa. outside of that, i'd say its quite a fair way behind other sports, even in the caribbean now :S

no

Cricket is popular in 10 test playing nations! :p (H)

The sports to play in Australia is Cricket, AFL, Rugby and now Soccer. but we are a sports mad nation so i bet i have missed many more sports people play in Australia.

We listen to the Australian Cricket captain than the Prime Minister! :D

That's a tough call. but from studies, Fishing is, if you consider it a sport that is. In terms of 'olympic sports' Athletics is the 2nd in terms of particpants worldwide, followed by Cricket and Table Tennis, mainly because of India and China.

This discussion has come up before, and I did find a list that did it all statistically once, but I cant remember excatly how it went.

I do know that Rugby Union, Tennis, Golf, Basketball, and Cricket were all right up there, BUT Im pretty sure Motor Sport (which it classed as one sport) was regarded as the 2nd biggest..The motorsport catergory took in F1,. Indy Cars, MotoGP and WRC (plus the numerous touring car cjhampionships around the worlkd) so it was no wonder that it was ranked 2nd...

One sport that hasnt been mentioned tho, is Cycling. It was DEFINITELY in the top 5 of the list...Mainly due to support throughout Europe and South America, and the popularity of its major event. The Tour de France is classed as the biggest Annual sporting event (altho some may argue the superbowl or even the Champions League final is bigger)...

But yeah, I know cycling was top 5, and those other sports I mentioned were all in the top 10...Wish I could find the list, it was out of a magazine, so not online, and Im in england, so its a bit far to go home looking for it right now...

I was in England for the last Champions League final, and honestly, no one really cared about it, because it didnt feature an english side...In Football people tune out more when it doesnt feature there team.

The tDF attracts a worldwide field, with riders from South America, North America, Africa, Europe and Oceania...I think every continent was represented apart from Asia in the last event...The routes are PACKED with fans (more than you could jam into any football stadium), and so it recieves just as much attention. Ask someone outside of Europe who won the Champions League last year, and if theyre not a football fan, they wont be able to tell you. But loads of people who arent cycling fans will tell you Lance Armstrong won the Tour de France...
