- Amunike's problem was a severe injury. He never recovered 100%. Still, he was way over-rated.
We could put Mantorras, the Benfica's Angolan striker, in the same category.
- Jardel wasn't an underachiever. He was simply the most under-rated striker ever! I mean come on, 2 golden-boots!? You can count the fingers of one hand how many players did that!
He also won several titles. Unfortunately he never made it in his NT (because Brazil's gameplay is obviously inadequate to Jardel's characteristics) and never got to play in a top 5 club (his dream).
Oh, and now he's a bum.
- Ivan de la Peña, now that's another good call. He was one of my fave players back in 98... Sort of a Magic Johnson of football, with his perfect-timed-no-look-passes. Unfortunately he was offered a millionaire contract by Barça and did exactly what Cruyff predicted he would do: rested on his (still) small gloriesand wealths and forgot to put some effort elevating his game; he became a one-dimensional player, completely useless for most teams.
Punkt: you're right, Edgar's the name. Remember how he was tipped to be the next Eusébio? Speaking of next-Eusébios, what about Akwa?
Aveirenses: Tinaia might not be portuguese, but he sure was a disappointment.
- Helder Postiga. No way he belongs here. At least for now. He's still young and got back to his old club, where he mixed perfectly a couple years ago. I think he has everything to go back to his old form and develop into a great player.
Other names: Candido Costa, Moreira (ex-Boavista)...
